Ulf Samuelsson Accepts Head Coaching Job With Modo

GLENDALE, ARIZONA — Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that Coyotes Associate Coach Ulf Samuelsson has accepted the head coach position with MODO in the Swedish Elite League.

“On behalf of the entire Phoenix Coyotes organization, we congratulate Ulf on becoming the head coach of MODO,” said Maloney. “We thank Ulf for all his hard work and dedication to the Coyotes over the past five seasons and we wish him the best of luck with MODO.”

The 46-year-old native of Fagersta, Sweden joined the Coyotes’ coaching staff in 2006 after one season as an assistant coach with the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL), the New York Rangers’ top minor league affiliate.

Prior to that, Samuelsson played 17 seasons in the NHL with Hartford, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Philadelphia and the New York Rangers, registering 57-275-332 and 2,453 penalty minutes. Before playing in the National Hockey League, Samuelsson played three seasons with Leksand of the Swedish Elite League.
