Coyotes refuse to die by beating top seeded Blackhawks 3-2 in SO

Well that was Coyotes hockey which has been sorely missed. Grind it out game keeping it close enough to steal it in the end.

This was a crazy game with the Blackhawks controlling the action and the pace, but no one told Mike Smith he had to let them all get past him. 36 saves on the night and he needed 2 more in the shootout against Toews and Hossa. Let’s face it Chicago is loaded and can score 6 goals a night if not for stellar play in net. Smitty was up for the challenge and one can wonder where we would be if he were healthy all season.

Seabrook was all the scoring in regulation and overtime for Chicago with a few seeing eye goals that found their way past Smith. The Coyotes opened their scoring with a wicked goal way on the other side of the ice that knuckled past Crawford. It was an oops goal but showed Phoenix they too could get some puck luck. Luck that has been lacking for so long and so many posts that it was almost expected for fans to see the worst to happen.

Vrbata had a nifty angled goal which solved Crawford who was good enough to get through OT but not the shootout where Boedker and of all shooters…..David Schlemko had the game winner.

After the 2 points and the win The Coyotes sit 3 points behind 8th place Columbus with a game in hand. A lot will be determined when Columbus travels to San Jose and Phoenix visits the motor city to face the dreaded Dead Wings.  If a win and some help can happen you have to like the remaining 3 games. Host San Jose and Colorado then visit Anaheim for a game they don’t need to win for any reason. Anything can happen but odds are still long for Phoenix. At least they keep that taste in Chicago’s mouth. They don’t want to see Phoenix grab the 8th seed for sure.
