Another week, another handful of games you shouldn’t have missed. Here’s what happened at Gila River Arena (oh, and a few other places, I guess) while you were busy making excuses:

Coyotes went on three-game losing streak

Unfortunately, things don’t stay perfect forever, and Coyotes fans learned that the hard way.

  • Just days after the Coyotes fell in disastrous form to the St. Louis Blues, the team was faced by two more of the toughest teams in the West- the Nashville Predators and the Minnesota Wild.

The Coyotes battled hard with the Predators, maintaining a tie score all the way to the fourth round of the overtime shootout. Unfortunately, the Desert Dogs couldn’t put it past Pekka Rinne that one final time, and walked away from the game with only one point, not two.

In the second game of the team’s two-game road trip, Arizona faced off against the eerily powerful Wild.

It was a clean game, but ultimately the team was unable to get even a single shot past Wild netminder Darcy Kuemper, and he went on to record his third (yes- THIRD) shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory for the Central Division team.

Injuries Abound, but Hodgman Saves the Day

Both Martin Hanzal and David Moss are out week-to-week, Hanzal with a groin injury from doing some seriously unnecessary on-ice splits and Moss with an upper body injury from blocking a shot with his hand.

What would seem to be a loss for the team, though, was actually a bit of a blessing in disguise- the Coyotes were able to recall rookie Justin Hodgman from the Portland Pirates, and he went on to score his first-ever career NHL goal- in his first-ever career NHL game.

Oh, yeah… and it was the game that the Coyotes triumphed over the Florida Panthers 2-1 in overtime with a nasty shot from Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Paul Bissonnette signs with Cardiff Devils

According to the EIHL franchise, it seems that Paul Bissonnette signed with his lockout team for the season.

The contract included in out clause, which rumor has it he might need to use- according to Craig Morgan of Fox Sports AZ, it’s possible that Bissonnette is headed back to the AHL, to play with the Portland Pirates and possibly even to replace BJ Crombeen on the fourth line.

(I’ll update you more on that in a bit).

    Around the league:

    • The Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs underwent a delay of game due to the terrorist shootings in Ottawa early last week. In honor of the soldier killed during the shootings, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers played the Canadian National Anthem at the start of their game. It was one of the most rousing performances seen by hockey fans since the Boston Marathon anniversary game last year at TD Garden.
    • Slava Voynov was suspended indefinitely by the Los Angeles Kings, although it’s looking like Semyon Varlamov is well on his way to following suit with the Colorado Avalanche. Both players have been accused of domestic violence; Varlamov’s case was dropped last season but is now being used as a lawsuit by the netminder’s ex-girlfriend, while Voynov’s case is still pending. Voynov is expected to be brought to trial on December 5th.
    • Congratulations to both Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins and Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks, who hit the 500 career NHL points milestone on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both teams won their games in addition to these players hitting this mark.

Keep checking back with us throughout the week for more Coyotes news! Happy Monday, Coyotes fans.
