Arizona Coyotes vs Carolina Hurricanes

Dear Coyotes fans,

You think we’re off to a rough start? Let’s talk about being 0-6-2 to start off the season. The Carolina Hurricanes have a thing or two to teach us about actually being off to a rough start- between the team’s extensive list of injuries and the transitional roster, the Canes are truly off to a less-than-stellar start.

I’ll keep beating this concept into the ground, though: arrogance loses hockey games. The Coyotes should head into this game as they would any other.

Details for Saturday’s game:

DATE: Saturday, Nov. 1st
TIME: 7:00 pm (EST)
LOCATION: Raleigh, North Carolina
ARENA: PNC Arena
TV Info: Fox Sports Carolina, Fox Arizona +

Keys to Victory:

This game should be one of the few guaranteed wins for the Arizona Coyotes.

  • It’s unfair to say that teams are preying upon an extremely weakened Carolina franchise, but there’s a certain truth to it. The Hurricanes are a team that was in it’s last-ditch attempt to find success with the Staal Brothers, and both have been out with injury for the majority of October.

To start off November, the Canes have activated captain Eric Staal from injured reserve, but the Coyotes will still have a number of weak spots in the franchise to target. Carolina has one of the worst save percentages in the league, but where the Coyotes have a (somewhat inconsistently so) strong defensive roster, the Canes have been stuck in a rut of ‘mediocrity’.

The Coyotes need to start off the game strong and fast- playing as if they want to fly back to Arizona with the kind of win they posted in Edmonton the second game of the season. Fans should hope to see a refreshed Mikkel Boedker score again, Sam Gagner to continue on his sluggish uphill trend, and the Martins- both Hanzal and Erat- to continue helping the team score goals.

Expect a gun-shy Carolina that cannot afford any more player injuries, so if the Coyotes play to a more aggressive style from the first period on, this game is theirs.

    Prediction:

The Coyotes are coming off a close loss. It’s time to step it up- and I’m confident they will.
