Arizona Coyotes Fan Playoff Profile: Ducks Sweep Jets Away
Ducks Sweep Hapless Winnipeg Jets, Move On To Face Winner Of Calgary/Vancouver Series
The Ducks 5-2 victory capped off a playoff series where the Amazing Anaheim hockey club hung tough in the first three games to come from behind after trailing after two periods.
They certainly learned from past failures, especially last year when San Jose spotted them the first three games, only to lose the series in seven. The Winnipeg Jets don’t need to hold their heads low, they played a machine-like team, who were difficult to stop.
Even without much scoring help from their two stars, Ryan Getzlaf and Cory Perry, their balanced attack was enough to ground the Jets… for good. And, the concerns about goalie Frederik Andersen near the end of the regular season were not an issue. He made saves when he had to, and kept the games close, which is the Ducks specialty — close games. He allowed just nine goals in the four game sweep.

The noise of the “Peg” didn’t seem to be a factor for the Ducks as it did in game 3. The Winnipeg fans were so overjoyed to see a playoff game they even chanted “GO JETS GO” as the two teams exchanged handshakes at the end of the game.
Like my fellow editor, Nadia Archuleta of Mile High Sticking mentioned in her post comparing the Av’s to the Ducks:
"“Like I said, the Avs are built more like the ‘Hawks in terms of speed and offensive talent. However, the Ducks are masters of accurate passing, puck possession and game management. Those are all areas that need improvement for the Avalanche. If the Avs became a hybrid of the two teams, as they are won’t to do, well, they’d be a formidable force indeed.”"
"“In any case, the Anaheim Ducks combined their superior puck possession skills with a resilient work ethic that allowed them to come from behind in three of their four playoff games. Sound familiar? The Winnipeg Jets just didn’t have enough skill and talent to overcome those advantages.”"
And that last comment about not having enough skill hits home to Arizona Coyotes fans. This past season saw an enormous drop off in talent, especially when it was decided to trade off assets to build for the future. When I go back and look at the statistics, it is very apparent that the Arizona Coyotes did much better before 2015 rolled in than afterwards. I believe the management of the team decided around the holidays that they were not going anywhere fast, and needed to adjust and improve for next season, and beyond.
Let’s hope the adjustments they’ve already made, along with the moves this summer (like that juicy #3 pick that some teams below the Arizona Coyotes are already coveting) will show needed improvement in areas that need it, so the playoffs will be more entertaining in Arizona and after waiting three years to see it — I know I’ll be thrilled.
