Arizona Coyotes Who Will Lead Team In Scoring

Last season OEL, was the top scorer on the Arizona Coyotes team, who will it be this new season?

When your top defenseman is your leading scorer, there seems to be something going on, or NOT going on with your offense. Of course, prior to Keith Yandle being traded to the New York Rangers at the trade deadline, he was doing the same thing.

With the influx of some young forwards who have shown they can light the lamp (at least in juniors, or the AHL); you would hope that situation would change. Of course, one must also admit that a defense-man like a Oliver Ekman-Larsson, or Keith Yandle possess the offensive skills to propel the team, so why not use those assets?

I am very anxious to see how well young prospects like Max Domi, or Anthony Duclair will do in improving the Arizona Coyotes’ scoring from the forward position. I’m not going to go on record to make bold predictions that Domi will score 20 goals, or Duclair will score 18 goals, simply because they have little or no NHL experience to justify such a prognostication. (I was hoping I got to use that word sometime…)

Granted a player of Domi’s stature has to be given some thought that he will be the next Tarasenko, and start blasting pucks past goalies like it was nothing.

Domi himself is just hoping to make the team. “Obviously it’s a big step from junior to the NHL, and you’ve got to adjust your game and adjust everything you do. I’ve got a lot to work on here, and obviously I’m going to be just acting like a sponge throughout training camp, and learning as much as I can. I can’t wait”, said Domi.

If Max Domi can score anywhere close to his London Knights days, the Arizona Coyotes offense will get a welcomed shot in the arm. His 126 goals and 205 assists in 244 games in the OHL show he has the skills to perform.

While every new player to the NHL progresses at different speeds, Domi seems to be ready to star on the Coyotes forward line.

And if he is teamed up with Anthony Duclair, you know that duo will be making some highlight film scoring opportunities, on a regular basis. Speaking of Duclair, he also has some scoring attributes of his own. He put 59 goals past net-minders while playing in the QMJHL in the 2013-14 season, while adding 50 assists for good measure.

His NHL debut was impressive as well, collecting eight points (1-g, 7-a) in 18 games. So glad the Rangers got greedy thinking that Yandle would help bring them the Cup. Duclair is now an Arizona Coyote, and watch this kid play!

It’s not often you can get two players who really click, and can star on your NHL team. Sure, the Blackhawks have Toews, and Kane. The Canucks have the Sedin twins, and hopefully the Coyotes will have Domi and Duclair.

I’m also imagining a forward line I call the “Triple D” line consisting of Domi, Duclair, and Dvorak. Both Domi and Dvorak have put time in at the center-man position. Now, that may be a few years down the road, but keep it in your memory banks, folks.

So, if I were coerced into making a selection as to who the top scorer would be for the Arizona Coyotes this new and upcoming season, I’m going to have to go with Max Domi. Antione Vermette may give him a run for his money, but Domi has youth on his side, and besides I think he’s a fast learner, and will pick up on the NHL game quickly.

We’ve got some great anticipation of watching several exciting young players help make the Arizona Coyotes a better team… don’t miss out!
