Arizona Coyotes With Patrick Kane On The Team

facebooktwitterreddit

According to a Sun-Times report, Mark Lazerus claims at least five teams contacted the Hawks about a possible trade for Patrick Kane. Could he be headed to the Arizona Coyotes?

My first reaction to this report was who are the five teams? There are only six teams who would even be able to entertain Kane’s $10.5 million cap hit.

To further complicate things, Kane has a no trade clause in his contract. Let’s just say his status is uncertain at this time.

They are:

  • Buffalo – $14.317 M
  • New Jersey – $14.042 M
  • Arizona – $13.874 M
  • Carolina – $13.468 M
  • Winnipeg – $13.309 M
  • Nashville – $12.489 M

You can see where I’m going here, right? I can tell you right now that the team who would see the most impact from acquiring a Patrick Kane would be the Arizona Coyotes. And, here’s why:

More from Coyotes News

  1. There are more Chicago transplants here in the Phoenix area than any other state, thus a Kane acquisition would be HUGE, I’m talking HUMUNGOUSLY HUGE… the attendance would go through the roof top of Gila River arena. That huge.
  2. If the ownership group wants to make a statement that they are all in for transforming this team into a Cup contender, nothing says it more than to bring in a franchise player like Kane.
  3. With an Arizona Coyotes team containing a Patrick Kane, the city of Glendale would be clamoring to extend the lease agreement with the team, with the team holding all the wild cards this time around. They’d be begging the Coyotes to please stay, pretty please.
  4. Can you just imagine Kane in an Arizona Coyotes uniform? It just boggles the mind, and fascinates every fan about the possibilities his contribution could bring to the desert.

Of course, there are reasons why the Coyotes wouldn’t try to work a deal to get Kane.

  1. His salary is too much.
  2. He has baggage, with his off-ice behavior.
  3. The Hawks would want some good young prospects back in return, which mortgages the future of the team.
  4. The chances of his behavior issues erupting in the future could cause more drama, and the team embarrassment.

Still, all in all, the entire concept is quite intriguing to think about. He may just choose to go to Buffalo, since he lives in that area. In the end, it will be all about where he wants to go, and try to re-establish his reputation. I’m not sure the east coast press would leave him alone. That’s why pro athletes are attracted to playing in Phoenix. The press is not that severe in Arizona, and I’m sure Kane would like it here.

Sorry, I doubt that this dream will come true, so don’t get your hopes up. I just hope if and when Patrick Kane moves to another team, we find out if our illustrious ownership group was involved in bringing him to Arizona, or if they walked away from a player who makes them contenders again.

We may never find out, but it was worth day-dreaming about it for just a moment
