Who’s in Net:
Braden Holtby is set to be the starter, and he is turning out to be a premier goalie in the league. The Caps are an offensive machine, but still need support in between the pipes. Holtby more than supplies that requirement.
Quick thoughts about the Capitals:
- Barry Trotz has been just what the doctor ordered for the Caps. His discipline and defensive mindedness has taken the team to new heights. Now they want to stay there, or move up further.
- Adding Oshie and Williams helps them along those lines and their power play should be a thing of beauty to witness with these two guys on the team.
- Their only weak peg might be if Holtby gets hurt, or they were to lose a top four defenseman, but that’s every team’s worry. They seem primed to be in the Eastern Finals again, and possibly in the Cup finals. There I said it.
Why the Capitals will win the Stanley Cup:
They were a good team last season, finishing in the top seven in offense and defense. Then if you have a superstar like Alex Ovechkin, you always have a shot to hoist the Cup. Could this be the year?
Why the Capitals won’t win the Stanley Cup:
They need to get over the Rangers jinx, and just play their game. If they think about it too much, it will freak them out.
Three Things We Like About You:
- Our games are thrilling events. We really get up to play against Alex and company. Who wouldn’t?
- We still remember when Alex Ovechkin scored while on his back, that was something else!
- We like visiting the nation’s capital, and your uniforms are very patriotic.
Three Things We Don’t Like About You:
- We’re jealous that you are as good as you are. We want a taste of that success… can’t you share?
- We should have gotten T. J. Oshie, but our team is too cheap, or thinks they are set with their lineup.
- Why it took you so long to finally find a coach who can coach Alex Ovechkin. I mean, he’s a superstar, is he that high maintenance? For real?
Prediction:
This season, if any season, is set to be the year that the Capitals can go all the way. They are a lock for the playoffs, barring any unforeseen difficulties, and with an excellent coach, two new players who should really help them, and a star goalie — well, it just doesn’t get any better than that. The Caps win it in six games over the Ducks. Hey, it could happen.
