Team Newcomers: None
Now Ex-Players: G Robin Lehner, C David Legwand, D Eric Gryba, RW Erik Condra
Coached by: Dave Cameron (2nd year)
Who’s in Net:
They dealt away Robin Lehner, so Craig Anderson and Andrew Hammond will likely share time until one of them wants the job more than the other.
Quick thoughts about the Senators:
- Goaltending could be their weakness, as without Lehner they must decide if Anderson or Hammond are going to get the job.
- If their youth continues to develop, they could be a pretty good team, but still not good enough to overtake the Canadians.
- They make it tough on teams coming into Ottawa to play them. They outscored us 12-3 in two games, and embarrassed us at home with a 7-2 drubbing. Ouch that hurts…
Why the Senators will win the Stanley Cup:
If Hammond can play as well as he did last year, they will be tough. He won 20 of 23 games down the stretch…not bad. They’re strong in scoring and defense, and if their prospects pan out, you never know what could happen.
Why the Senators won’t win the Stanley Cup:
They didn’t bring in a single new player, and are just hoping that their young players will carry the load to bring them the Cup. NEWSFLASH: That ain’t going to happen.
Three Things We Like About You:
- Erik Karlsson is a joy to watch. He’s always a contender for the Norris Trophy, and a real asset to the team. Oliver Ekman-Larsson is just like that on our team.
- You play a very competitive game, yet have not won the Cup… yet.
- That you play in the East and when you beat teams like NY, Detroit (especially), Boston, etc. It floats our boat.
Three Things We Don’t Like About You:
- The Canadian Tire Center is where you play. For real? I mean who would know that if they got into town and wanted to see a NHL game? Just so they don’t sell me some retreads, I’m good.
- That you pounded us in BOTH games last season. Don’t think that will happen again this year. We are going to win at least one of the two games. We must regain some respectability.
- We hate it that Erik Karlsson has won two Norris Trophies, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson has yet to win one. We’ll see how that goes this year. Watch it Karlsson, another Swede is after that trophy.
Prediction:
They had a good run near the end of the season to get to the playoffs, but then faltered. They did nothing of mention in the off-season, so they may make the playoffs again, but won’t advance very far.
