The Arizona Coyotes appear to be back in sync offensively with two six goal outbursts back-to-back. Can they maintain their hot streak leading up to trade deadline?

The Arizona Coyotes offense is clicking on all cylinders. Goals are coming hot and heavy.

The kids are on fire. Martin Hanzal is so hot right now. Louis Domingue has snapped back to form.

Can the Coyotes do the unthinkable and crawl their way back into the Western Conference playoff race?

They sit just four points back of the Colorado Avalanche for the final wild card position in the conference. Oh, and they also have three games in hand on the Avs.

There’s a lot riding on the next three games for the Yotes. The team plays three games in four nights and are approaching the trade deadline rapidly.

Rumors are swirling about Mikkel Boedker’s contract situation and his reported $6,000,000 per year asking price will likely price him out of the Arizona Coyotes’ comfort zone regardless of the team’s standing heading into the final week. If he’s not traded it would be fairly shocking at this point.

Boedker has had just one assist in each of the Coyotes’ six goal outbursts this week. He’s also scored only one goal since December 27th against Colorado. While everything else is clicking, Boeds continues to sink and hurt his own value as well as the Coyotes’ ability to get a decent return for him in trade.

The next ten days are going to be very exciting.

Coyotes Talk

Howlin’ Hockey suggests that Oliver Ekman-Larsson is the Arizona Coyotes’ future captain. “If Shane Doan is the heart and soul of the Arizona Coyotes, the twenty-four year old Swede with the sick wristers is the engine that keeps it all running. Without OEL the Coyotes do not even sniff the playoffs in 2015-16.”

Brendan Porter of Five For Howling explored a trade scenario involving Mikkel Boedker being moved to the Dallas Stars. The most recent offer put forth showcases Ales Hemsky and Jyrki Jokipakka plus a second round pick coming to the Yotes in exchange for Boedker, Kevin Connauton (a former Stars player), and Jens Looke. I’m not sure if that’s quite the value Don Maloney will be looking for in return for Boedker but it remains to be seen how gaudy offers will be at the deadline compared to last season.

Similarly, Colin Likas of Blackhawk Up explored the odds of the Chicago Blackhawks being the Arizona Coyotes’ trade partner for Boedker after he was suggested as a target by Bob McKenzie on NBCSN. Likas puts the Blackhawks odds of acquiring Boedker at about 50 percent, with Boedker having “scored more than 15 goals just once in his NHL career” being one “knock at the negotiating table”. It’s hard to knock that logic as it’s the same line of reasoning most Coyotes’ fans are utilizing in regards to Boedker requesting $6 million per year on his next contract.

“Scoring that goal was something that I’ve long awaited. To finally get it was truly incredible.” — Tyler Gaudet

Tyler Gaudet scored his first NHL goal last night. Cat Silverman of Today’s Slapshot wrote about Gaudet and how his hard work and tenacity have paid off. In the article, Silverman quotes Gaudet referring to his first career tally. “Scoring that goal was something that I’ve long awaited,” admitted Gaudet. “To finally get it was truly incredible.” Pretty awesome stuff.

On the subject of Captain Coyote, Sarah Hall of Along the Boards ponders where Shane Doan goes from here. Hall writes that “with the team seemingly ahead of schedule with their rebuild, having Doan in the locker room would prove a great advantage for the young players coming into the team.” Couldn’t agree more. The Arizona Coyotes should bring Doan for one more year at the very least.

Max Domi was named the NHL’s second star of the night.
