The Arizona Coyotes lost the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. With their fourth straight road loss even the Coyotes brass cannot deny that the team is all but eliminated from the playoff race.

68. Final. 2. 121. 4

The Arizona Coyotes took the ice in Philadelphia to play perhaps their last game with 2008 1st round draft pick Mikkel Boedker in the lineup.

With Boedker looking set to be traded before Monday’s trade deadline and word arriving prior to puck drop that the Coyotes had claimed Jiri Sekac, another spring of transition looks to be upon the team.

The Flyers got the scoring started early when Scott Laughton scored on a breakaway. He was left all alone in behind the defense and was able to easily beat Louis Domingue.

The Coyotes got on the board shortly afterward.

Max Domi fed a nice pass to Brad Richardson who one-timed it into the Flyers net to tie the game 1-1.

They then gave up goals to Claude Giroux and Sam Gagner to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead at the end of one period.

There wasn’t a whole lot of action in the second, however Oliver Ekman-Larsson stepped up once again in the third period.

His best bud Boedker found him activating in the offensive zone for a pretty sweet goal. 3-2.

Unfortunately Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored with less than three minutes remaining to seal the victory for the Flyers.

Flyers win 4-2.

Player Performance

Mikkel Boedker watch is nearing an end. We’ll know by Monday afternoon whether or not he’s on his way out of Arizona. He did at least get an assist tonight and seemed engaged compared to recent games.

Max Domi got moved to the third line with Richardson and Shane Doan and immediately paid dividends. I don’t know if that says a lot about Domi or a lot about Richardson and Doan. They keep producing no matter who gets put with them.

Kevin Connauton shared some fisticuffs with Scott Laughton which led to this fun exchange on Twitter between Dave Vest and Craig Morgan.

Louis Domingue had a pretty rough first period but did save 17 of 18 shots faced in the final two periods. It wasn’t a great game for #35.

Arizona Coyotes Player of the Game

Oliver Ekman-Larsson keeps scoring goals and being awesome despite the team falling apart around him. It’s also important to note that the signature name being shopped from the Arizona Coyotes is his best friend and roommate.

He’s certainly dealt with the hubbub better than his Danish counterpart.

The View From The 200 Level

Unfortunately, that about does it for the 2015-16 aspirations for the Arizona Coyotes.

It’s past time for Don Maloney to sell whatever pieces he feels necessary – most importantly Mikkel Boedker – and tool up for next season.

The boys have nothing to hang their heads about. Fans have plenty to look forward to moving forward.

The Coyotes’ offense was amazing in the early part of the season. There were so many comebacks and clutch goals scored. That’s not a style of play that you can get a lot of mileage out of, however, and it has shown in the month of February for the Yotes.

It will be a breathtaking 48 hours in Glendale and around the NHL.

The Arizona Coyotes lace them up on Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Odds are it’ll be minus a few familiar faces.
