The Arizona Coyotes snapped a seven game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers. Alex Tanguay scored two goals and had an assist in his Coyotes debut.

1. 97. 5. 121. Final

The Arizona Coyotes have struggled in many areas of late on their way to a seven game losing streak.

Bad goaltending, an inability to score consistently, and a lack of discipline have harmed and held back the Coyotes night in and night out.

Thanks to a beautiful debut by Alex Tanguay and a bounce-back performance by Louis Domingue, the Yotes got back to winning ways on Saturday night.

Jordan Martinook got the Coyotes off on the right foot with a shorthanded goal in the second period. Five minutes later Tanguay got his first Coyotes’ goal to put the team up 2-0.

Aaron Ekblad scored to bring the Panthers within one late in the second.

In the third it was all Arizona, however, with Shane Doan scoring on the power play and Alex Tanguay getting his second goal of the night. The Tanguay goal was gorgeous.

Antoine Vermette capped off the evening with a goal at 19:37 to seal the win.

Arizona Coyotes win 5-1.

Arizona Coyotes Player of the Game

Alex Tanguay scored two goals and had an assist in his debut for the Coyotes. That’s about as good as it gets for a new addition…particularly one thought to be a throw-in.

For one night, however, Tanguay has shined brightly. Perhaps he’ll continue to do so for the rest of the season.

The View From The 200 Level

The French Connection line – Anthony Duclair, Tanguay, and Vermette – contributed three of the Arizona Coyotes’ four even strength goals.  Not a bad debut for Tanguay and the line that was created around him.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t show this graphic again:

That’s Alex Tanguay looking better than Mikkel Boedker in all categories sans goal-scoring (which they are both bottom six level in production in). One night in, he put up more goals than Boedker did in the final 26 games he played for the Coyotes this season.

Welcome to the team, friend. Welcome!

The other important note to mention for tonight was the play of Louis Domingue.

On a night where the Yotes were absolutely desperate for a win, Louis bounced back to his early call-up form in saving 32 of 33 shots he faced.

With the Arizona Coyotes down to ECHL goaltender Marek Langhamer as backup, there is no safety net left behind Louis Domingue until Mike Smith returns. Tonight was a necessary step forward for #35 and the Coyotes.

If Domingue cannot shoulder the load prior to Smith’s return, the next man up is going to be thrown into the deep end of a pool he shouldn’t be swimming in at this point in his young career.

Tonight, though, things are golden. A 5-1 win is glorious after a trying two weeks.

The Arizona Coyotes face the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night. Tanguay and Boedker get to face their former teams for the first time.
