It came later than he’d like, but Arizona Coyotes rookie Dylan Strome may finally make his NHL debut against Ottawa on Tuesday night.

The Arizona Coyotes may see some changes in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.

Craig Morgan reported that Head Coach Dave Tippett suggested Dylan Strome might find his way into the lineup.

Christian Dvorak may be the odd man out if Strome is on the ice in Ottawa according to Sarah McLellan.

The swap would make sense given Tipp’s previous comments on the pair of centers.

Dvo has earned his own ice time and spot in the lineup, however, so it seems odd to shove him to the side just to slot in Strome.

On the flip side, replacing Dvorak with Strome a few times gives John Chayka and Dave Tippett the ability to assess the player in the exact same setup and line combination to get a grasp on where they are individually.

It’s not a perfect science, but in some ways it gives both a fair shot at making hay with their time on the ice.

Whoever can excel will win the job, and then management will sort out what happens with the runner-up.

There was also word that Kevin Connauton may be ready to go against Ottawa and could slot in for Jakob Chychrun. Hopefully alternate accommodations will be made.

This team knows what it has in Connauton. He’s a bottom pairing, puck moving defenseman who can jump up into the top four for a couple of games here and there. He’s a valuable piece, unlike Klas Dahlbeck.

What we don’t know is what this team really has in Chychrun.

He may be the Coyotes’ left-handed version of Seth Jones or Aaron Ekblad. Chych may also hit a wall a few games into the season.

I’d rather find that out early in 2016 and make my plans for the year accordingly afterward. If management discovers he’s capable, deploy him as an incredibly skilled bottom pairing defenseman instead of Connauton.

Last year Kevin Connauton was arguably one of the Coyotes’ four best defenders. On this roster, it’s possible he’s only the sixth or seventh best.

That’s Chayka’s magic at work.
