Dylan Strome was returned to juniors by the Arizona Coyotes in part to take the ice at the World Junior Championship. He did not disappoint in Canada’s opening game.

Dylan Strome‘s NHL career with the Arizona Coyotes didn’t begin as planned.

After being in and out of the lineup and up and down it as well, he was returned to the Erie Otters for another year of seasoning.

There were a few objectives given to him by the organization.

His skating needs to improve and he needs to put some meat on his lanky 6’3 frame.

Another reason for his return was the World Junior Championship at the end of the year.

The Coyotes expected Strome to be a big part of Team Canada and so far he hasn’t disappointed.

The 19-year-old was named Canada’s captain in December.

In Canada’s first game in the tournament, he showed why the Coyotes prized him so highly.

After waiting patiently, Strome and his merry band of Canadians unleashed on Russia with a fury.

With the game tied 1-1, Dylan Strome struck on the power play after a beautiful feed by Matthew Barzal.

He fired the puck off lightning fast and it was in the net before the Russian goaltender could react.

Strome wasn’t done adding to the scoreboard, however.

Later in the contest with Canada nursing a two goal lead, Captain Canada cleaned up the garbage with a nifty little goal off of a juicy bounce off the post.

The Strome family’s reaction to the second goal was pretty great, as well.

And should Canada go on to win the WJC, this may well be the picture of the tournament.

As the tweet says, I know what I’d be using for my Twitter profile.

As we wrote a while back, Dylan Strome is going to be just fine.

The Arizona Coyotes just have to wait a little longer than expected, is all.
