Tax day was a bit worse for the Coyotes. Playoff hopes ended for most all who love this team and continue to support them. First score of the game was a long possessed puck by San Jose and no matter how many posts you hit or how many penalties weren’t call, you have to have heart. Your Phoenix Coyotes were without a pulse Monday night. As if they heard before the game that trucks would be at the arena the day after the season to transport the equipment to another city. Really all anyone speaks about is we may lose our team.

Apr. 15, 2013; Glendale, AZ, USA; San Jose Sharks right wing Adam Burish (37) holds Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (23) upside down as NHL referee Kelly Sutherland (11) looks on during the third period at Jobing.com Arena.
San Jose played like the desperate hockey club tonight. Pushing the pace and no regard for their back to back with the Kings tomorrow. They made Phoenix look like an 11th place team. Very below average effort. Fans turned on not just Yandle and the refs tonight. Hanzal, Vrbata, even beloved Shane Doan was given blasts. Besides a crazy game where he scored 2 goals and was a man possessed he too seems to have not been firing on all cylinders. Same feeling we had during the losing streak. Like they know something we don’t. Hard to sugar coat it any longer. I am upset this crazy season has melted our resolve. Who are we anymore?

Phoenix will have to win out at this point and then look to see what happens. Really though fans, even die hards like me understand we are not making the post season and frankly we don’t deserve it nor want it badly.

Mike Smith was a scratch due to an illness. Ok enter LaBarbera who at times flashes some good leather…..not tonight. He was abused and peppered with over 40 shots.

Dave Tippett deserves better than this. If any one of you think this is on coach Tippett than you must think all the teams that lose to the Yankees have horrible coaches. No they have the deck stacked. Most of the time Tippett uses magic and slight of hand to trick all. But in the end the lack of talent hurts. You can’t coach heart and effort but give me a bunch of Klinkhammers and Conners and let’s start fresh. Who needs a veteran who is a fill in until we trade them for a 7th rounder.

Next up: Blues, Blackhawks, and Red Wings on Thurs, Sat, and Mon. This road trip will define whether we even have a chance in the final 3 games. Last game come in a back to back which should follow a Colorado win at home then Anaheim with nothing to play for and may want to rest to get ready for playoffs. Right now the word playoff is a joke and to quote a famous outburst.

“Playoffs? Playoffs?”

Phoenix has to beat teams it should beat. With the loss there is just no margin for error and every game is a must win.

It was one of those games where it looked like a tight Coyotes style of game with a score early on. Coyotes with a lead early meaning the odds truly on our side. Now our style will suffocate theirs. Just a Vermette had scored on some nice work from Chris Conner around the first minute Calgary tied it with less than a minute in the opening period when a puck hit a moving skate but they deemed it not a kicking motion which seemed like BS IMO.

Late 2nd period Keith Yandle is called for a tripping penalty which again it feels we cant get a break when fairness of calls is in question. Of course Lee Stempniak scores on the power play and like that we hed to the 3rd down 2-1

In the third the Coyotes could not get one pas MacDonald no matter the number of flurries produced until Keith Yandle one timed a shot pass from Derrick Morris tying the game which sent the game to OT. In the extra session a screened Mike Smith let in the game winner and he calmly skated off in disgust as there wasn’t much he could do in that spot.

Really a disappointment which cannot help confidence but they return to the friendly confines of Jobing.com against a team they play twice down the stretch at home the San Jose Sharks. Also having Colorado at home which should be a win with the only back to back the next night vs. Anaheim which will have nothing to play for. So it’s not over and if they can hold serve at home it comes down to a 3 game road trip with the Blues, Hawks, and Red Wings.
