Bryzgalov shuts out former team

Behind some great goaltending behind Ilya Bryzgalov, the Coyotes got a 3-0 road victory over the Ducks in Anaheim on Sunday night.  The shutout was Bryz’s second of the season and the 18th of his career.

Taylor Pyatt got the scoring underway midway through the first period with his fourth of the season.  Pyatt’s goal went past Jonas Hiller off of a deflection.  It was the first point for the 29-year-old since Nov. 21.  Early in the second period, Shane Doan scored his second goal of the season on the power play.  Lee Stempniak added an empty netter late in the third period to put the game out of reach for Anaheim.

This night still belonged to the Coyotes Russian goatender.  Bryzgalov finished the night off with 26 saves and he made most of them look easy.  Anytime he faces the Ducks, you know he has to be extra amped up by facing the team that released him during the 2007-2008 season.  Phoenix is still thanking Anaheim for doing so to this very  day.

Sunday night was a much needed victory for the Desert Dogs after essentially dropping three of their last four.  The win also kept them on pace in the standings with the Kings and they actually moved past the Ducks in points.  Phoenix’s next game isn’t until Thursday night when the Minnesota Wild visit Jobing.com Arena.
