Two signings announced during Free Agent Frenzy. The first is goalie Chad Johnson. Chad is a 26 year old 6’3″ 205 lbs University of Alaska-Fairbanks product who has spent his entire NHL career in the Rangers organization. What stood out to me is his prototype size. Tall and big. The second thing is his goals against in college was 2.67 with a 0.908 save percentage. His stats with the Connecticut Whale organization was 2.49 and 0.919 in 2011-2012. His pro career stats are 62-55-11 with 2.58 and 0.910. Hopefully this Chad Johnson will not force the equipment managers to change his nameplate.

What I take from that is that he is consistent and gives the same performance. You know what you are going to get when he is in the net. He’ll be an excellent addition to Portland and be a strong mentor for Mark Visentin, goalie of the future.

The big signing was Dave Moss. Big as in 6’4″. Big as in Big Blue, a University of Michigan product. Big as in the first signing announced today by the Coyotes. Big as in right wing who will play the 3rd line with Gordon in the middle and Lauri Korpikoski on the left side. 124 points in 317 games. A 30 year old native of Livonia, Michigan, he has spent his pro career in the Calgary Flames organization. He missed several games last year due to an ankle injury sustained while blocking a shot. He’ll fit in fine.
