Interest in Shane Doan Is All The Rage

Today is the day superagent Terry Bross deemed as the deadline for Shane Doan to determine if he was going to stay with the Coyotes or pursue other offers. Set forth by Shane, it was based on the date the City of Glendale outlined regarding petition signatures to kill their deal with Mr. Greg Jamison. The petitions were not delivered to the City clerk at 5pm today. Therefore, a reasonable person would assume the petition drive was unsuccessful and the individuals behind it (including Goldwater Institute) should abandon this folly. A reasonable person does not have the GWI operating behind the scenes and receiving Canadian money to keep up the charade.

Today, prior to the 5pm deadline, Mr. Bross acknowledged that the following teams were in the Shane Doan Sweepstakes based upon their interest in Shane and his interest in going there:

  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  2. Detroit Red Wings
  3. Montreal Canadians
  4. Vancouver Canucks
  5. LA Kings
  6. Pittsburgh Penguins
  7. and 5 others per agent Terry Bross

It would be easier to list the teams not interested in Shane or ones that Shane would not have an interest in.

  • NJ Devils. While he does have experience in playing for bankrupt teams, he probably would steer clear of the Prudential Center.
  • Winnipeg Jets. Been there, done that.
  • Toronto Maple Leafs. Shane is not into April golfing.
  • Ottawa Senators. I think Shane would prefer not to speak francois or run into Stephane Auger.

And there you have it. The teams that would not be on his list. Who would not want a physical specimen, a hard-hitting and play hard every shift leader on and off the ice? A proven 0.7 point per game performer who makes every on the ice better.

The only team missing on the first list is the Phoenix Coyotes. General Manager Don Maloney has been in touch with Shane and his agent. Mr. Jamison was to have reached out to Shane as well. I previously wrote that the Coyotes had over 15 million dollars to spend this year to get to the salary cap floor. They have spent 3 million with the signing of Steve Sullivan, Kyle Chipchura, and 2 players that are on 2-way contracts. That leaves 12 million. Give 6 of it to Shane in the form of a 4 year 24 million dollar contract. That gives you 6 million to spread over 2 or 3 impact players. Worry about extending Mike Smith and Mikkel Boedker next year. If the team is going to succeed and turn a profit this year, it must have it’s Captain at the helm.
