Arizona State Men’s Hockey. The Best Kept Secret In The Valley
By Jack Briggs
Arizona State Sun Devils currently play Division 1, 2, and 3. Their home rink is Ocean Side. It would be nice for the local media to spend a few minutes covering the teams as a means of promoting hockey and the university. The D1 team is ranked #2 in the country with a 9-0 record. Think about this. The number two ranked team in the country is right here in the valley. Have you seen any coverage of this on the news or the newspaper? Why isn’t the Public Relations Department at the college getting the team some positive press? We will do it ourselves. Here is the link to the team site. Sun Devil Hockey
The game time this Thursday is 8:30 p.m. against Eastern Michigan and at 8 p.m. Friday against Colorado State.
Kale Dolinski leads the team with 8 goals and 9 assists, including 3 powerplay and 2 shorthanded goals. Clearly he can score in all phases of the game. Tied with him at 17 points is the Danny McAuliffe who has notched 7 goals to go along with his 10 assists. Joseph D’Elia is 6-0 in goal for the Sun Devils with a 2.33 goals against.
I copied the D1 roster to show that the team is comprised of local standout hockey players as well as those from across the country. Florida, New York, Pennsylvania. Powerhouse states like Minnesota make fine Sun Devils. Even the frozen tundras of Calgary and Edmonton are represented. How happy do you think they are to be rolling around Tempe in 85 degree weather right now when their family back in Edmonton are experiencing -2 Centigrade (28 F)?
