Mediation time for NHL and NHLPA

Desperate times……Desperate measures. That is the state of the NHL these days. No one wanting to give. Well in this scenario someone has to give. It is understandable the players put some amount of pressure on the NHLPA to get what they want. They can’t afford however to miss many more games. The NHL has pressure from it’s owners. They appear content on dragging this out until they break the union. Who’s right here? No one can say for sure. I dont think owners should lose money but they have never really opened their books. All seems so privately kept. “Take our word for it”???

“While we have no particular level of expectation going into this process, we welcome a new approach in trying to reach a resolution of the ongoing labor dispute at the earliest possible date,”  Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service director George Cohen said Monday afternoon.  NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement. “We have no further comment on the upcoming meetings at the current time.”

The players frustration has bubbled over to the media and social websites. Good thing about Twitter is you will get a frank opinion without much of the red tape. They want to play. It’s what they do. How they provide.

Good news is several Coyote’s players have returned from assignments for what can only be assumed….practice?

I have long said the drop dead start date is Dec. 1st but who knows at this point. Why not run it from Jan until later in the year. Many US cities have NBA and NHL in the same building or at different sites in the area on the same night. Maybe it’s time for the NHL to use this to change it’s season time. Start at one point and end in the Spring. If NBA runs from Nov to June and NFL from Sept to Jan it may be wise to end their season just as MLB kicks off their spring training. With NFL running once per week in ea city they should piggy back the NFL season ending just over a month after the Super Bowl. Many fans hate that lull between then and start of baseball so it will satisfy that appetite for some good hitting and goal scoring.

Whatever you do. Get it together boys. The empty barns are depressing.
