The Arizona Coyotes are coming out of ‘One Of Those Weeks’, and we’re all feeling it.

Ah, Coyotes fans. Don’t you love the smell of chesnuts roasting on an open fire? Who doesn’t love a nice Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich?

We got a chance to talk about what we were most thankful for on Turkey Day itself, and a couple of us may or may not have ordered our Arizona Coyotes ugly Christmas sweaters. With a ton of wintertime hockey looming in the future, it’s time to start talking about how great the Coyotes are going to be heading into 2015! I CAN FEEL IT, GUYS, I JUST KNOW IT’LL BE GOOD!

Only… we need to address last week’s games. The Coyotes went 0-2-1 in their last three games, coming out of a spectacular shootout win over the San Jose Sharks to earn only a single point last week. Here’s what you might have missed:

    Arizona Coyotes vs Anaheim Ducks

    DATE: Sunday, November 23rd
    Final Score: Anaheim 2 – 1 Coyotes

The Arizona Coyotes took a while to wake up in this match-up — and while the Ducks started off sluggish as well, they notched just one extra goal to finish the game 2-1 in regulation.

The Ducks are out with the mumps again, but the Coyotes were unfortunately the last team to play them fully healthy. Soooooo they lost. Not a good sign for the Desert Dogs, but things… could be worse?

    Arizona Coyotes vs Colorado Avalanche

    DATE: Tuesday, November 25th
Final Score: Colorado 4 – 3 Coyotes (OT)

    HOW DID THIS HAPPEN??

The Arizona Coyotes went from being up 3-0 to getting scored on four consecutive times by a desperate Colorado squad.

Maybe the Coyotes fell prey to score effects here, and maybe the Avalanche just knew it was do or die here. Whatever the case may be, though, the Coyotes let in a couple of shots on sloppy turnovers and through some awkward bounces off of Martin Hanzal‘s giant body — and walked away from the ‘scoreless for nine periods of play’ Avalanche with only one of a possible two points. Not Good.

    Arizona Coyotes vs Calgary Flames

    DATE: Saturday, November 29th
    Final Score: Calgary 3 – 0 Arizona

    Ouch.

For the second time this season, the Coyotes got shut out 3 – 0 by their opposition… and once again, it sent the fans into a tailspin.

If I remember correctly, the Coyotes came back from their last 3 – 0 shutout  (recorded by the Carolina Hurricanes in their first win of the season) to beat the Washington Capitals 6-5 in Washington’s home arena, so maybe these games are the spark Arizona needs to finally start scoring again.

The fact that the only period in which both teams were held scoreless was the one that the Coyotes got outshot 13-3, though, shows that the Coyotes need to become a more two-way, versatile team — you can’t ONLY play defense or ONLY play offense. Ya gotta do both, buds.

    Keeping up with the Coyotes:

    • Brandon Gormley has resumed skating with the team, as has David Moss. Hopefully, the team will finally be fully healthy… just in time to play the Boston Bruins, who are coming from a recently-mumps-infested Eastern Conference. NO MUMPS PLS.
    • Over the Thanksgiving Break, a couple Coyotes players helped out with families who couldn’t afford their own holiday celebrations. Per the Arizona Coyotes Official Site: “Defensemen Connor Murphy and Michael Stone, forward Rob Klinkhammer, Assistant to the General Manager/Goaltending Coach Sean Burke and Radio Analyst Nick Boynton will spend part of their Thanksgiving Day helping serve a holiday brunch at a Phoenix-based shelter on Thursday morning.”
    • Good news, Coyotes fans! Max Domi has been named to this year’s World Junior Championship selection roster for Team Canada. After being a glaring omission from the lineup last season, we’re all hoping to see him make waves this time around. This is where prospective goaltender Mark Visentin made that crazy behind-the-back save that made me fangirl so hard.
    • Lucas Lessio is back in Portland, presumably working a bit more on his goal-scoring development and getting the top ice minutes he most likely wasn’t going to be getting in Arizona. In his place, the team recalled forward Brendan Shinnimin — who didn’t get a chance to score a goal, but provided some offensive drive on a struggling squad in his NHL debut. Like Justin Hodgman, Shinnimin is an undrafted player who’s doing his best to exceed everyone’s expectations.
