John Moore Has Been a Good Addition To The Arizona Coyotes Defense
John Moore, born in Winnetka, Illinos and just 24 years old was the 21st overall Draft choice of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2009 Entry Draft. He began his hockey career with the Chicago Steel of the USHL in the ’07-’08 season. He appeared in 56 games accumulating 4 G, 11 A, and 2 PPG. The following season he improved to 14 G, 25 A, and 6PPG, with 3 game winners, in 57 games.
During the ’09-’10 season he was promoted to the OHL performing for the Kitchener Rangers. There his numbers were even better with 10 G, 37 A, 6 PPG in 61 games.

It was enough to get a brief call up by the Columbus Blue Jackets for two games where he went scoreless. He did play for the Springfield Falcons of the AHL where he collected 5 G, 19 A, in 73 games. He was a good stay at home D-man who performed well.
During the ’11-’12 season he played most of the season with the parent Columbus team, but only had 2 G, 5 A, during that season. He stayed out of the penalty box with only 8 penalty minutes, showing his discipline on the blue line.
During the lockout-shortened 2012–13 season, Moore was included in the NHL trade deadline day deal made by the Blue Jackets that sent Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett, himself and a sixth-round draft pick to the New York Rangers in exchange for superstar Marián Gáborík and prospects Blake Parlett and Steven Delisle on April 3, 2013.
John Moore didn’t waste any time, scoring his first goal of the season hours after the trade in a 6-1 victory over the Penguins.
His Rangers numbers were respectable: 125 games, 6 G, 21 A, averaging 14:53 ice time a game.
On March 1, 2015, Moore, along with Anthony Duclair, a 2015 second-round pick and a 2016 first-round pick, was traded to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for defensemen Keith Yandle, Chris Summers and a 2015 fourth-round pick. It was a blockbuster trade for the Arizona Coyotes who had been rumored to trade Yandle for several seasons.
What made the deal was Duclair, who is a promising prospect that the Coyotes coveted. Yandle’s offense was going to be missed, but Moore’s defense, and Duclair’s offensive skills should improve the team’s performance next season. Or, at least that is the hopes of GM Don Maloney, who pulled the trigger on the deal.
Moore has been playing on the power play, and has been a steady D-man for the short time he has been with the Arizona Coyotes. He hopes to show the team his worth, and with his five points in sixteen games so far, he is doing exactly that. Yandle has only seven points in his sixteen games with the Rangers, so getting Moore has been an excellent decision, thus far.
He fits right in with the team’s youth movement, and re-tool. I’d say he is an excellent new piece to the team, and should provide solid blue line defense, and his size at 6’3″, 200 lbs can’t hurt either.
Welcome John Moore to the Arizona Coyotes!
