The excitement is so thick you can cut it with a skate… the SEASON IS UPON US !

I can assume I’m not the only fan who has made it through the LONG, HOT summer with dreams of being back at watching my favorite sport again.

I know I can’t wait to see Max Domi, Anthony Duclair, Brendan Perlini, Christian Dvorak, Henry, AND Philip Samuelsson, Nick Merkley, Christian Fischer, Dakota Mermis, and Conor Garland to name a just few. In all, there will be 29 players, including three goalies, eight defensemen, and 18 forwards gracing the Gila River ice on Saturday.

According to GM Don Maloney, literally six to eight players could easily make it to the NHL this year. Now, that’s a bit optimistic seeing that there are 22 players including Domi and Duclair on their listed roster on arizonacoyotes.com. Unless he’s talking about making it to the NHL on ANOTHER team’s roster, I don’t see it happening here.

More realistically some will be sent to the AHL Springfield Falcons to get more experience and refine their game further. Since the roster limit is 23, I see just one other spot open for another player to jump in and take.

More than likely, players like: Dvorak, Samuelsson (both brothers), Fischer, Mermis, Garland will land on the Springfield Falcons roster of the AHL. I seriously doubt GM Don Maloney will be cutting any other regular players like a Kyle Chipchura, but it could happen. Don’t forget Chipchura was put on waivers last season, and even though he was assigned an “A” on his sweater, his play is marginal, at best.

The John Scott signing was a mystery which has many Coyotes’ fans still scratching their heads.

Even if you allow some young prospects to play, and they make mistakes (like most young players make) you’d still be better off than keeping border-line players like the two mentioned above.

What I will look for (besides some good photo ops) will be what the future of this team will look like. And, I think I will like what I see. Domi and Duclair alone should give every Arizona Coyotes fan some promise that the future is bright in Arizona.

Add in players like Perlini and Dvorak, with a pinch of Samuelsson (both varieties) and your recipe for success tastes pretty delectable. Looking further down the ice, you have Merkley (who Maloney raves about), and Fisher whose style of play has been compared to Shane Doan, and it brings a smile to your face, with the thoughts of the dismal last season just a past memory.

So, if you have hockey fever (or just some spare time) come see the FUTURE Arizona Coyotes in action. I know I’ll be there.
