The Arizona Coyotes won in dramatic fashion last night in Glendale. They were the beneficiaries of superb efforts from Max Domi and Oliver Ekman-Larsson leading the way, however it was Louis Domingue’s play late that kept them in contention.

Arizona Coyotes rookie Max Domi rightfully stole the show last night in Glendale.

Scoring your first hat trick after not finding the net for more than a month will get that kind of reaction. Particularly when you’re just 42 games into your rookie season. He wasn’t the only Coyote to shine, however.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson quietly collected four points, none bigger than his overtime game-winning goal. At this point in year six, is anyone surprised? There are few players in the NHL more clutch than OEL.

Another overlooked story was the play of Louis Domingue.

He has been poised beyond his years in his previous eight starts with the Arizona Coyotes. Truly his performance had been almost otherworldly. Tuesday night, though, Louis didn’t have his stuff and it showed in his play. He was fighting the puck early, and a puck handling miscue directly resulted in Antoine Vermette taking a penalty to bail his goaltender out.

The Oilers scored on the ensuing power play.

Still he fought on. He shook off the miscues and the deflection that went into his net to take the Oilers lead to 3-1. In the third period and overtime he stood tall and made the saves the Coyotes needed him to make.

Consistency in net. This is what every Yotes fan has been begging for.

Goalies have bad nights. It’s inevitable. The good ones can shake it off and forget about the bad goal and move forward.

On an off night in Glendale, Domingue shouldered through his own jitters, bad decisions, and bad luck to do just enough to allow Ekman-Larsson an opportunity to secure the win.

You can’t ask for much more than that.
