Arizona Coyotes Win Challenging Contest, Top Flyers 5-4
The Arizona Coyotes broke their losing streak with a hard fought win against the Flyers.
Even with several calls going against them, the Arizona Coyotes found a way to break their five game losing streak.
The Yotes have made a habit of getting off to a good start, and tonight was no different.
The Brad Richardson line did an excellent job holding the puck in the zone as the Coyotes changed up. Anthony Duclair drove the puck to the net.
Duke’s shot rebounded right to Jamie McGinn on the doorstep, who made no mistake. It was his first goal as a Coyote.
Four minutes later Oliver Ekman-Larsson got them on the board again. 2-0.

The Yotes nursed a two goal lead into the second period.
Unfortunately, things went kind of wonky from there.
Bad calls, lopsided penalties, and overturned goals all combined to create a nightmare 2nd period for the Arizona Coyotes.
The Flyers picked up goals from Nick Cousins and Brayden Schenn in the 2nd, meanwhile Jordan Martinook‘s apparent goal was overturned for goaltender interference.
Six minutes into the third period, things became chaotic right as Martin Hanzal scored a goal.
Defenseman Michael Stone was laid out by Brayden Schenn, which prompted rookie Jakob Chychrun (who’s partner happens to be Brayden’s brother Luke Schenn) to drop the gloves and challenge him. Chychrun received a two-minute instigator penalty and a misconduct penalty and was thrown out of the game. In the meantime, refs tried to sort out whether Hanzal’s goal counted.
It did, thankfully.
Goals from Brad Richardson and Ryan White iced the game, though Andrew MacDonald and Wayne Simmonds did try to spoil the party.
Tonight was nasty and a bit infuriating, but ultimately it was a win Arizona sorely needed.
Arizona Coyotes Player of the Game
Louis Domingue made some timely saves and some huge saves (and also gave up another laugher). Jakob Chychrun didn’t impact the score sheet but probably lifted team morale. Brad Richardson had two points (and four penalty minutes).
Ryan White had the game-winning goal, but also took two boneheaded penalties.
This was a team win. Most everyone had a touch of good and then perhaps a side of bad. No one stood out particularly, and perhaps that was the way it had to be for the Yotes to get back in the win column.

Eight power plays for Philadelphia to three for Arizona.
One Coyotes goal overturned for some rather nebulous goaltender interference, while another Flyers goal was not overturned for a more direct variety. The calls didn’t seem particularly egregious…minus the fact that Laurent Dauphin ate a penalty for that “goaltender interference” which then resulted in the second call.
If the call on the Brad Richardson goal review had gone differently, there would’ve been a lot of tables flipped in the desert.
Somehow, despite their own mistakes and the breaks going against them, the Arizona Coyotes pulled it out to finish their East Coast swing with a 1-5-0 record. That certainly looks better than 0-6-0, even if only marginally so.
