Arizona Coyotes Recall Anthony DeAngelo, Tyler Gaudet From Roadrunners

The Arizona Coyotes have recalled Anthony DeAngelo and Tyler Gaudet from the Tucson Roadrunners.

With injuries beginning to pile up, the Arizona Coyotes have dipped into their reserves for help.

GM John Chayka announced the team has recalled Anthony DeAngelo and Tyler Gaudet from the Tucson Roadrunners.

If he sees playing time, this would be DeAngelo’s first NHL experience.

Gaudet has played 16 games across two seasons with the Arizona Coyotes previously.

"GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman Anthony DeAngelo and center Tyler Gaudet from the Tucson Roadrunners, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).This season, the 21-year-old DeAngelo has registered 1-4-5 in eight games with Tucson. DeAngelo also scored the game-winning goal for the Roadrunners in Saturday night’s 5-4 overtime win vs. the Ontario Reign. The 5-foot-11, 183-pound native of Sewell, New Jersey collected 6-37-43 in 69 games with the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) last season, which ranked seventh among League defenseman.DeAngelo was selected in the first round (19th overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2014 Entry Draft.The 23-year-old Gaudet has tallied 2-3-5 in eight games with Tucson (AHL) this season. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound native of Hamilton, Ontario has registered 1-2-3 in 16 career NHL games with the Coyotes over the past two seasons.Gaudet was signed by the Coyotes as a free agent on November 4, 2013."

The move to bring up the two youngsters is in response to injuries to Michael Stone and Martin Hanzal.

Both were expected to miss only limited time, but the injuries appear to have proven harder to shake than anticipated.

In a piece yesterday, I suggested that Tony DeAngelo might earn himself a call-up in the near future.

It looks like he already has.

The former Tampa Bay Lightning prospect has been effective offensively thus far with the Roadrunners, and put up 43 points last season with the Syracuse Crunch in the same league.

It would be fair to say DeAngelo has proven he belongs in the NHL in his own end, but still needs some growing defensively.

Tyler Gaudet was thought to be the heir apparent to Boyd Gordon – younger, faster, and cheaper, but possessing a similar skillset – but he was beaten out in training camp by Christian Dvorak and Dylan Strome at the center position.

One would assume that Gaudet may be replacing one of those two names in the lineup on Tuesday night.
