Coyotes come back twice against Blues, face Blue Jackets tonight
Despite being down twice, the Coyotes found a way to come from behind to get a big 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues last night. Taylor Pyatt scored with a little more than three minutes left in the third period and Jason LaBarbera came up with some huge saves in the remaining minutes to preserve the victory for Phoenix.
St. Louis couldn’t have gotten off to a better start. Just about a minute into a game, David Backes got his 12th goal of the season to give his Blues an early 1-0 lead. The second period was all Phoenix though with two goals and the Coyotes outshot St. Louis 15-8. Lauri Korpikoski got his sixth goal of the season a little more than six minutes into the period and then about three minutes later, Lee Stempniak gave the Desert Dogs the lead. The goal was Stemp’s ninth on the year, but his first since Dec. 5.
The third period started off with a bang for St. Louis. They got two goals within a 20 second stretch early in the third period. Matt D’Agostini scored first for his 10th of the season and then Brad Winchester retook the lead for the Blues with his eighth of the season. The one-goal lead was short-lived for the Blues though as Kyle Turris would tie things up about midway through the period. Pyatt would then retake the lead from the Blues for good to give the Coyotes the W and extend the Blues losing skid.
Phoenix can’t celebrate their win for long as they are right back at it tonight in Columbus against a struggling Blue Jackets team. Columbus is winless so far during the month of January, which included a 4-2 loss last week against the Yotes. It remains to be seen if Michal Rozsival will make his Coyotes debut due to his injured ribs. Rozsival was acquired from the New York Rangers on Monday for Wojtek Wolski.
