  • Max Domi was voted the 2014-2015 team captain for the London Knights by his teammates on Monday afternoon, replacing Chris Tierney from the previous season.

His assistant captains are defenseman Dakota Mermis, and forwards Michael McCarron (who was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2013 draft, twelve spots behind Domi) and Matt Rupert- who, hilariously. is a Sedin-like twin who is spending the year playing without his twin brother, Ryan. TWINZ.

    Anyways.

London is currently 7-6 to start off the season, with Domi raking in 3 goals and 15 assists in his first eleven games.

What does this mean for the Coyotes?

Max Domi is being given a leadership role, which can only mean good things for the Coyotes in the Long Run. (yes, caps are necessary, because we are looking at the Big Picture here.)

He’s also chipping in with a monster number of assists, which is nice to see. Could mean that he’s trying to work on being a real playmaker on the ice… although he’s got 18 PIM to accompany those 18 points, which is not exactly how it’s supposed to work. Hopefully he’s just trying to play a physical game, which could mean he’s working on being Shane Doan’s successor.

Would any of us be mad about that? I’d like to see a show of hands. I would not even be a little bit unhappy about that.

This also means that Domi is getting a chance to lead alongside guys who aren’t necessarily going much farther than the OHL (and probably the ECHL, once they’ve graduated from playing in the kiddo league) in addition to his time being the head honcho with McCarron. The two are proooooobably going to enter the league at the same time, aka next year, so it’ll be cool to see how they each develop with their respective teams.

In any case, couldn’t be happier for Domi. Plz make us proud Max Domi, we need you.
