  • After a devastating 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night (THE COYOTES. LOST. TO CONNORLINA. I LITERALLY CANNOT EVEN), general manager Don Maloney is making some wiiiiiiilldddd and crazy moves. In other words, he’s bringing up the Fantastic Five- WHO WE ALL ASSUMED WOULD MAKE THE TEAM ANYWAY.

    Anyways.

I’m done with the caps lock- but seriously, it’s about time.

The Coyotes are in a bridge year waiting for Max Domi and Henrik Samuelsson to come up and do their thang, yes, we know, thankuverymuch- but it’ll be nice to win a few games.

Of course, looking at this from an objective perspective, I actually admire what GMDM and Dave Tippett did. Until you’re sure which older roster players are going to work out and which ones aren’t, why not give your young guys top ice minutes in Portland, then call them up as needed? That’s very Boston of you, Arizona. I approve.

Of course, I’m assuming that I know their reasoning for everything, but seriously- why else would they have done this?

Back to looking at Reider, though. Here are some nice numbers for the German forward:

4: number of goals he’s had this year. Thank God, because we need some more of that.
3: number of positions he’s played already this season. Short of Brent Burns, it’s hard to find a player in the league who’s as flexible and willing to float all over the ice quite like Tobias Rieder. Eat your heart out, Edmonton.
2: number of assists he’s had this year. You know what? We don’t need that many assists. That’s what Keith Yandle is for.
42: number of goals Reider scored with the Kitchener Rangers in 2011-2012. Last season, he had 28 goals with Portland. This guy’s pretty good.

Fingers crossed, Coyotes fans. Maybe this one will stick.
