“Twilight Zone Hot Takes”: The Coyotes Need to Trade for Max Domi
Max Domi: Why haven’t the Coyotes already targeted him?
I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the Coyotes are going into full rebuild mode.

Rebuilding is a very romanticized idea in the post-lockout NHL. With it comes the exiling of most veteran players, the promise of filling the lineup with fresh young talent, and the painful process of rarely winning.
But the reason you do it is exciting – you get those high draft picks. Those high draft picks that turn into franchise cornerstones — you get the chance to tank your way to guys like Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel to build around. However, you also need to surround those guys with other talent. Trades will have to be made, and the kind of guys you acquire in those trades is just as important as who you draft.
Which is why the Coyotes need to move heaven and earth to acquire Max Domi.
For the uninitiated, Max Domi is the Best Prospect in Hockey AKA the Best Player Not In the NHL. He’s always had potential, but his stock shot through the roof at the World Juniors. He was far and away Canada’s best player (other than Sam Reinhart; non-Canadians like Dylan Larkin and William Nylander don’t count). Don’t just take my word – take Craig Button’s, who ranked Max Domi #1 in his Top 30 NHL-affiliated prospects.
And this is definitely not another Brayden Schenn scenario if you ask me. Max Domi is the real deal.
Simply, Domi is the kind of guy you can build around. Complement him with a McDavid or Eichel, and you have the beginnings of a strong core for a long time.

I’m a big fan of Max Domi, even if his parents missed a great opportunity by not naming him Tyson. In addition to being a fan, I recognize the importance of chemistry, and the Coyotes already have his teammate Christian Dvorak in the system. Acquire Max Domi and who knows, you might have the next Sedins on your hands — these two play like they have the twin telepathy of the giant-headed Swedish twins, but you don’t have to deal with the confusion of having no idea who’s who.
With those two on your first line and McDavid or Eichel on the second line, this team will be a winner for a long time to come.
Inevitably, to get Domi, you’re going to have to move someone out of the lineup. And I don’t care who that is. It can be anyone. Preferably Shane Doan. You think Max “Son of Tie” Domi would ask for a trade and then deny asking for a trade? No. He would stick to it one way or the other because that’s the type of character he has.
Sooner rather than later, the Arizona Coyotes need to get the Arizona Coyotes on the phone and move heaven and earth to acquire Max Domi.
