“Boy, those yoga lesson are really helping! Perhaps I should let Martin Hanzal know about them…” – Dustin Tokarski, Montreal Canadiens goalie

One of the most vital improvements in the Coyotes’ game in the last week has been that the Coyotes are shooting more — and good things happen when you shoot the puck.

More from Coyotes News

Outshooting the Canadiens 32-20 was a key ingredient in this victory, which should be in every Coyote players mind — now that the results are apparent. Eventually, luck will also factor in — goals like Oliver Ekman Larsson’s fluke goal in the Maple Leafs game will become more frequent — and the team may start to win more often.

One of the other key factors in the Coyotes’ victory was that the team spent more time playing in the Canadiens’ zone more than their own zone — this can only lead to positive results, and it shows that the team has been working on the concept.

They’ve been over the top almost every game in blocked shots, as well — and keeping shots off the net always helps. (Still unsure why the team grasps that concept more with the backup goalie than when Mike Smith is between the pipes, but I’m not a trained psychologist — can’t help you there.) Combine those blocked shots with a relentless assault on goalies like Tokarski, and you’ll force them to make more wacky saves — and the more often they’re out of position, the better the team will look in the long run.
