Christian Dvorak Named January Player Of The Month
We’ve written on the site about Max Domi almost to the point where you don’t want to hear his name any more — but for the second time now, we’ve got some news about a different player.
The Coyotes have a lot to be excited about when it comes to the young players making their way through the major juniors and the AHL — but the name that seems to be climbing the boards, chomping at the bit to get more chatter from Coyotes nation, is Christian Dvorak of the London Knights.
On Wednesday, he was once again named the OHL’s Player of the Month.
This time, he earned the honors for his impressive stats in January — when he continued to put up out-of-this-world numbers playing alongside Max Domi.
Dvorak recorded 28 points in 12 games last month, with ten goals and 18 assists.
Dvorak also won the December player of the month award when he put up JUST 26 points.
This season has absolutely been a breakout for the 2014 second pick as the Illinois born Dvorak has put up 90 points in 46 games. Second on his team behind Mitch Marner (whom we have profiled before) and third in the league. A Portion of the press release follows.
“For the second consecutive month, Arizona Coyotes prospect Christian Dvorak of the London Knights is the OHL Player of the Month. Dvorak surpassed his December output of 26 points in 10 games, recording 28 points including 10 goals and 18 assists in 12 January contests. The forward who turned 19 on Monday opened the month of January with his second straight six point effort, recording a goal and five assists in an 8-6 victory over Sarnia. Dvorak had points in 10 of 12 January games, recording multi-point totals in eight of those contests. The sophomore is currently on a nine game point-streak, accruing nine goals and 13 assists in that span.A 6’0″, 190Ib native of Frankfort, Illinois, Dvorak is currently second among Knights scorers and third in the OHL with 90 points (35-55–90) in 46 games with a plus-minus rating of plus-38. He has provided 11 powerplay goals this season and a total of 19 powerplay assists, helping the Knights to a record of 30-16-0-3 on the season for third place in the Western Conference. He was Arizona’s second round, 58th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.”
Dvorak just celebrated his 19th birthday earlier this week, so winning the Player of the Month award again was probably a nice birthday gift. Now the biggest question is — will we see Christian full-time at Gila River Arena next season?
As a guy on pace for 120-plus points in the major juniors, Dvorak may even be he ready to show what he’s got at the pro level in 2015-16.
