Arizona Coyotes With Connor McDavid In The Lineup

If Good Fortune Were To Hit The Arizona Coyotes, And They Actually Get To Draft Connor McDavid, How Cool Would That Be?

The season may be winding down for the Arizona Coyotes, but the hype accumulating about the prospect of adding Connor McDavid to the team is growing daily. I mean the hapless Yotes have lost 17 out of 18, and 14 of their last 15 home games at Gila River Arena.

They could still finish last, since Edmonton has now passed them with 51 points to the Coyotes 50. Buffalo still leads the sweepstakes with a lowly 47 points. Some say the Oilers have had so many first round and number one picks without any success, that they don’t deserve to win the lottery. Buffalo did some things at the trade deadline to indicate they could be tanking to get McDavid.

The Arizona Coyotes almost MUST get McDavid for a number of reasons:

  1. They need offense so bad they can taste it, like a cold beer on a hot desert day
  2. To allow the franchise to flourish, they must start winning more games.. that’s where McDavid enters the picture
  3. There hasn’t been a prolific scorer comparable to McDavid’s potential since Keith Tkachuk after the team arrived here from Winnipeg
  4. The fans in Phoenix have been loyal through all the ownership trauma, and threats of relocating the franchise.. they deserve a winner

Many hockey experts are predicting that McDavid will be another Sidney Crosby. If that’s the case this young man will be turning some heads on whatever team is lucky enough to draft him. McDavid is trying his best to not allow the pressure to bother him. According to Stephen Whyno of The Canadian Press, McDavid stated:

"“If you’re doing that, then you’re going to get kind of caught up in everything,” the Erie Otters star said after a recent practice. “You have no control over it, and so why worry about it. There’s nothing you can do.”"

Connor McDavid may be the next Sidney Crosby, but he needs to find his niche in this league. He is a special talent whose impact on the NHL will be the story of the 2015-2016 season. I don’t like to project odds of which team has the “inside track” of signing this young player to a contract, but I can certainly imagine how it would turn around the Arizona Coyotes. And even if the lottery Gods are not kind enough to bestow the number one pick to the Desert Dogs, Jack Eichel is a pretty darn skilled hockey player too. Mitch Marner would do nicely as well.

The player besides Max Domi who excites me as a fan of this game, is Anthony (Tony D) Duclair. Can you imagine a lineup of Duclair, Domi, McDavid/Eichel/Marner, Henrik Samulesson taking the ice next season? I would be checking out Arizona Coyotes season tickets, my fellow hockey nuts !
