Arizona Coyotes Center, Mark Arcobello Has Been A Pleasant Pickup Off Waivers

Since his debut on February 11, 2015 — Mark Arcobello has been a good addition to the lineup, and their leading scorer over that period. He has nine goals and seven helpers in 25 games. His much needed offense has sparked the team, and he hopes to stay in Arizona next season. He’s also good in the faceoff circle, winning 53 percent of his draws.

He’s shown smart puck moving skills that Coach Dave Tippett has noticed.

"“I give him credit,” Head Coach Dave Tippett said. “He’s a smart player who understands the situation he’s in with our team and tries to play accordingly.”"

Going into the last week of the season, the 26-year-old center from Milford, Conn., had played 74 games in 2014-15 — with four NHL teams. His adept goal scoring skills has caught the attention of the coaching staff.

"“I’ve played more than 100 games in this league now and I believe I can play at this level and do well,” said Arcobello, whom the Coyotes claimed off waivers on Feb. 11. “I’ve been lucky enough to get some bounces and some good opportunity to score some points. I think I can put that up regularly.” text"

Arcobello, was not drafted, and played four seasons at Yale, then in the ECHL and the AHL before earning a roster spot with Edmonton in 2013-14. He played 192 games for Edmonton’s AHL team in Oklahoma City, where he became that franchise’s all-time leader with 60 goals, 101 assists for 161 points.

The Oilers sent him to Nashville last December, and the Predators waived him after four games. He was then picked off waivers (his specialty) by Pittsburgh, who waived him after ten games. When he joined the Coyotes, he became just the third player in NHL history to play for four teams in one season — and qualifying him for being an expert at moving.

The Coyotes have expressed that they will be trying out multiple prospects to help fill the roster in 2015-16. Forwards like Max Domi, Henrik Samuelsson, (who the Arizona Coyotes recalled 4-8-15 to play the last two games) Brendan Perlini, Anthony “Tony D” Duclair and Christian Dvorak will be given shots to make the team at training camp later in the year.

Arcobello, who is set to become a restricted free agent after this season, is just looking for a place to call home, and if you ask me he’s found it. If the Arizona Coyotes don’t sign him to at least a one-year contract, I think it would be a mistake.

He has proven he can play at the NHL level, and his all around play equates to a player the team can really use to build towards the future of the franchise. He is only 26, and if he plays in the final two Arizona Coyotes games he will have 77 games this season. With his career high 17 goals, 14 assists this season, I think he deserves a shot to stay here in Arizona.

To me he is that type of sniper that could really add to the young prospects coming on board next season, and he came at a very reasonable price. Another smart move by GM Don Maloney. Way to go guy!
