Why The Winnipeg Jets Will Defeat The Ducks In Round One

Many Were Surprised By The Winnipeg Jets This Season… Add Anaheim To The List

I know as the editor of Howlin’ Hockey the Winnipeg Jets gave the Arizona Coyotes a hard time, and they may just do the same with the Western Conference champ Anaheim Ducks. In the season home opener for the Coyotes, the Jets spanked the home team by a margin of 6-2. I was there, it wasn’t pretty.

What made it worse was Blake Wheeler scored two goals for the Jets, and he was a Coyote draft pick and chose not to sign with them.

He’s big 6’5″, 206lbs, and I will be interested to see how the Ducks defense tries to corral him.The fact that the Jets are the “Cinderella/dark horse” team this season may come into play.

The Arizona Coyotes are like the step-child of the Winnipeg Jets, ever since the Jets moved the franchise to the desert in 1995.  So, with the Coyotes out of the playoffs — I mean WAY OUT… the Jets are the next best thing to having a playoff team in Phoenix, AZ.

My armchair fellow editor, Nadia Archuleta, editor of Mile High Sticking thinks the Ducks are a “machine-like” team who are precise in their passing, and they have their own system and stick to it. She also thinks the one-two punch of Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry is practically unrivaled in the NHL.

I couldn’t agree more, the Arizona Coyotes played them pretty well, even though they finished 29th. Will the Ducks under-estimate the Jets? Perhaps.

They could only manage three wins out of five games against the Arizona Coyotes, and four of the five games were one goal games, Anaheim’s specialty. They have a remarkable 33-1-7 record this year in one goal games. I suggest the Jets keep a two goal margin if they want to beat the odds.

But, I’m writing about why the Jets are going to win this series. According to By Ryan Dittrick  – WinnipegJets.com / The Runway:

Boasting an equally strong supporting cast to the firepower, the Ducks and Jets match up well. Getzlaf, meet Little; Perry, Wheeler. On and on, the speed, skill and passion of the playoffs will, as Head Coach Paul Maurice put it, amplify within seconds after the anthems, igniting what could be a lengthy series ultimately decided by the slimmest of margins.

In the end, the physical (the Jets were eighth in the league in hits) and speed oriented style of the Jets will defuse the Ducks, and I predict it will be the Jets in six games…. what do you think of that Nadia?
