Arizona Coyotes Fans Are Upset: Ask Ronda Pearson

Don’t Mess With Her Arizona Coyotes ! !

Ronda Pearson was like any other Arizona Coyotes fan who finally got to her limit of how much abuse is enough. She appeared at the City of Glendale council meeting where the disillusioned politicians decided to squirm their way out of a binding agreement signed by both parties, and cancel the city’s lease with the hockey team.

Didn’t we just go thru this in 2013? Yep… July 2, 2013 to be exact was when in a 4-3 vote the Glendale City Council decided to sign a lease agreement for 15 years and a total of $225 million. In case you missed it, or want to review the events back then, here is the video.. keep in mind it is over four hours long.

So, basically Ronda has made national news with major carriers running her video of her rather irritated objection to the way the Glendale City council was treating her Arizona Coyotes hockey team. Her passionate words have caught the hearts of many hockey fans both locally and even into Canada.

And, her argument is quite compelling. How can Mayor Weiers be so hypocritical to wear a Arizona Coyotes jersey he didn’t pay for? And pretend he supports the local hockey team, when he has objected to the lease agreement, which was signed before he took office? She is tired of politics mixing with her enjoyment of her hockey team, whom she supports with her time and money.

So, what is the next step in this fiasco? The Arizona Coyotes don’t have to pay the City of Glendale rent, and the city doesn’t have to pay the team for arena management fees until the lawsuit is settled, I guess?

That certainly puts things into limbo. What NHL free agent could be persuaded to play in Arizona with the uncertainty of the team’s future looming? How does GM Don Maloney carry on to try and bring this team out of the poor showing it exhibited last season? He’s been told his hockey budget will not be affected by the lease cancellation, and that the team will continue to play at Gila River Arena.

Another factor is Captain Coyote Shane Doan’s status, with this happening again during his career here in Arizona. Does he finally say, ” Look guys, I’ve had enough of this, and I’m out of here.” His loyalty is unending, but this has really been a strain on him and his family who love living in the Valley.

I mean they are regular people too, with kids, family and lives to live. Unfortunately the City of Glendale just doesn’t care about things like that. Their only concern it seems, is to figure out how to find a loophole (and weak one at that) to void an agreement made in good faith with the team. I’m sure the city has bit off more than it can chew, and it will be entertaining to see how this is resolved.

With the backing of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who scolded the actions of the city council to not abide by the lease agreement, the city has begun a fight it may not want to finish. It’s reputation is certainly tarnished, and Ronda may have awakened the sleeping giant by bringing to everyone’s attention how ludicrous the city’s actions were.
