Arizona Coyotes: Looking Forward III – Dylan Strome

Dylan Strome Could Become Center of the Arizona Coyote’s Universe

A top of the line Center has been hard to come by for the Arizona Coyotes. While the team is loaded with skilled centers, none have really been able to go toe-to-toe with other top lines around the league. This is a problem that will not go away on its own, the Coyotes need a top of the line center if they want to become competitive once more.

Sam Gagner had a good season last year with the team, but it remains to be seen if he has the ability to become the Coyotes top center-man. The Arizona Coyotes need a man who can look elite centers such as Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Toews, and Joe Thornton in the eye, and not blink. Strome might be that man: standing at 6’3” he has the size and the skill the Coyotes want. Finishing as the OHLs top point getter with 129 points (45g-84a) with the Lake Erie Otters, he definitely knows how to bring an offense to life.

Many people point out many of Strome’s numbers can be attributed to having Connor McDavid on the same line as you, but I don’t think that is the case here. Strome put up amazing numbers, even without McDavid, he doesn’t rely on anyone and he creates his own luck and always knows what is happening on the ice at all times.

The Coyotes with Strome- Strome has the potential to become the keystone of the Arizona Coyotes offense in the near future, and may even one day become the face of the franchise. Strome is being compared to the likes of Ryan Getzlaf, and for good reason; he is a big, powerful skater, has an erratic shot and knows has distinguished himself as a leader.

If anything, being separated from McDavid might be a blessing in disguise for Strome, to many people are attributing his success to his line mate, the NHL will give him a chance to prove he is his own player. He will be in good company as well, his potential line mates range from prospects Anthony Duclair, Christian Dvorak, and Brendon Perlini. To current Coyotes Sam Gagner (who can play both center and winger), Mikkel Boedker, and  maybe even Captain Coyote himself Shane Doan.

Shane Doan would be an excellent mentor for the young Strome, and could teach him how to throw around that 6’3″ frame at the NHL level. Strome could very well be the next face of the Arizona Coyotes and lead their fans too much excitement for years to come.
