We finish up our Arizona Coyotes Re-Draft series with the first round selections from 2009 to 2014.

In Parts 1 and 2 of the Arizona Coyotes Re-Draft, we re-selected players in the first round from 1996 to 2008.

The first nine picks gave the Coyotes the opportunity to nab players like Duncan Keith (54th overall in 2002), and Henrik Zetterberg (210th overall in 1999).

The following seven re-drafted players gave them the chance to steal Jamie Benn (129th Overall in 2007), and Erik Karlsson (15th Overall in 2008).

We continue the Arizona Coyotes Re-Draft with the final seven picks of the first rounds from 2009 to 2014.

The Arizona Coyotes were dead-on with their selection back in 2009. In numerous other re-drafts, Ekman-Larsson would have  been picked second overall, behind John Tavares. Ekman-Larsson is the whole package. He can lay down devastating hits, disrupt passing lanes, and even score some clutch overtime goals with 0.3 seconds left on the clock.

OEL will easily be the next team captain for the Coyotes, once Shane Doan hangs up his skates for good. Ekman-Larsson accounted for 23 goals and 20 assists for 43 overall points last season. The Norris Trophy may be his sooner than you think.

2010 NHL Draft Selections: Brandon Gormley (13th Overall) and Mark Visentin (27th Overall)

2010 NHL Re-Draft Selections: Vladimir Tarasenko (16th Overall) and Justin Faulk (37th Overall)

If the 2014 goal of the year wasn’t enough to grab your attention, Vladimir Tarasenko’s numbers will. This kid scored 73 points (37 goals and 36 assists) last year to lead the St. Louis Blues to a division championship last season. The Blues added an exceptional talent with this sniper, who will be able to amaze fans for many years to come.

The Arizona Coyotes will look to add more depth defensemen with the re-draft selection of Justin Faulk. Faulk is a hard-hitting defenseman who is not afraid to sacrifice his body to make a play. Whether it’s his ability to block shots or his aggressive forecheck, he is vital to the Carolina Hurricanes defensive unit. Last season he tallied 15 goals and 34 assists, as well.

2011 NHL Draft Selection: Connor Murphy (20th Overall)

2011 NHL Re-Draft Selection: Johnny Gaudreau (104th Overall)

The Arizona Coyotes missed out on the one and only Johnny Hockey. Gaudreau is one of the better players in the 2011 draft, and was finally selected in the fourth round. Brandon Saad is tempting to pick in this NHL Re-Draft, but one must assume his success would result from his linemates Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Gaudreau has silky smooth hands, and a very accurate wrist shot. He finished 2014 with 24 goals and 40 assists.

2012 NHL Draft Selection: Henrik Samuelsson (27th Overall)

Henrik Samuelsson was the best available player left on the board when the Coyotes were on the clock in the 2012 NHL Draft. It is hard to gauge his potential, as he only has three NHL games under his belt. Samuelsson has a good chance to crack the professional roster as a third liner next season. Henrik put up big numbers in the WHL, and could possibly replicate those in the future for the Arizona Coyotes.

2013 NHL Draft Selection: Max Domi (12th Overall)

The Arizona Coyotes nailed it with their 12th overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft. Max Domi is the future of this team, and will certainly have a league-wide impact this Fall. Domi has been putting on a show in the OHL with the London Knights.

In his career with the Knights, Domi has scored 331 total points in only 244 games. What he lacks in size (5′ 9″, 198 pounds), he makes up in speed and agility. In case you forgot, Max Domi can score in a variety of ways too.

2014 NHL Draft Selection: Brendan Perlini (12th Overall)

Again, it is still early to tell how Brendan Perlini will turn out, but it’s safe to say that this kid has potential. The Arizona Coyotes drafted very well in the 2014 NHL Draft, so a re-draft is not necessary. Perlini continues to impress with the Niagara IceDogs in the OHL. Expect Perlini to have a bigger role in the AHL this year.

The Arizona Coyotes added on to their first round selections with Dylan Strome (3rd overall), and Nick Merkley (30th overall) in 2015. The Coyotes are headed in the right direction, and it will only be a matter of time until their performance is felt across the entire league.
