“I mean Stoner if you missed that easy put back, I wouldn’t know what to tell you” – Shane Doan, Arizona Coyotes Right wing/Captain

Doan was able to collect his 899th career point on a classic rush around the net, causing Devan Dubnyk to slide to his right, and when Doan shot, the rebound went right to Michael Stone who had an easy put back to make the score 4-3. The comeback fell short, but it just shows you that this team this year already has shown a never give up attitude.

They trailed the entire game, but never gave up. One of the reasons for that is having a captain like Shane Doan, whose middle name is “never give up.” He has been doing it for twenty years now, and is starting to show some signs of slowing down. Like most players who are lucky enough to still be playing NHL level hockey at age 39, the skills start to deteriorate.

  • Yet, you can never really count out Doan, he’s a fighter, and doesn’t know the word ‘quit’. Many are claiming with this his last year of his current contract, that the Arizona Coyotes should trade him to a contender, so he has a shot at the coveted Cup. Doan claims to happy right here in Arizona, and he must approve any trade that may be done.

I’m sure if he stays here (which is more than likely the case) when he does retire as a player the team will find a job for him in the organization in some capacity. His vast knowledge of the game over his career is valuable information to share with the organization.

Besides, Doan is the most popular sports figure in the valley, and he will play until he feels he cannot contribute any longer. That could be next season or in two-three seasons. He will know when it’s time to hang up his skates, and he will do it with dignity and courage.
