  • Calgary Flames at Arizona Coyotes – November 27, 2015

The Calgary Flames had the Arizona Coyotes number last season, winning all five contests. They went on to a very surprising season with 97 points, a third place finish in the Pacific Division, and second round elimination at the hands of the mighty Anaheim Ducks. This season the Flames have had their temperature turned down a bit, with them sporting just a 8-12-1 record, at this writing. They have struggled with two four game losing streaks, and have been very uncharacteristically inconsistent thus far.

The Arizona Coyotes need to take advantage of this, by getting back at the Flames for those five losses from last season. But, this Coyotes team is significantly better than last years team, in many aspects. First of all, the Flames are yet another team who hasn’t seen the rookie combination (or Dynamic Duo) Max Domi and Anthony Duclair. Don’t look too long, because they’ll speed right by you on their way to the net.

The Calgary Flames are known for their speed, but they may have met their match when they see how the Arizona Coyotes have thrown it into fifth gear, and are peeling rubber this season. Secondly they had better take a gander at Martin Hanzal as well, since he is at better than a point a game pace this year with four goals and 14 assists in 17 games.

He already has 19 per cent of his career assists this season. He has really picked up his game, and his off-season back surgery has helped his play enormously. His enormous frame (6’ 6”, 226) doesn’t hurt either. He has been able to muscle defenders off the puck, and feed it to his line mates (mostly Tobias Rieder, and Anthony Duclair) for tallies. Then, add in that Max Domi joins him and Duclair on the power play unit, and the Flames had better watch these players closely.

The way the Arizona Coyotes have been playing improved hockey, and the Calgary Flames have NOT, this is an easy call to make.

Prediction: Arizona Coyotes 5, Calgary Flames 2
