Shane Doan’s Hat-Trick On January 7, 2012:
Last season was a rough one for Shane Doan. Captain Coyote has been in an awkward position ever since a franchise rebuild has been declared. It seemed as if Doan’s quest for the coveted Stanley Cup may only be a dream, as the team began to sell off their current assets in hopes for future dividends.
However, this year may be one of the most important of his career. The team desperately needs his wisdom and guidance to shape the young super-stars that are getting their first taste of NHL action. Shane Doan is laying the foundation for a team destined to make a push for the playoffs.
On a more individualistic note, Shane Doan has a lot to be proud of this year. Doan has been climbing the franchise record books ever since he hit the ice as a rookie. Each season Shane has passed a few well-known names on theses lists in his journey to the top.
As of now, his journey looks to be complete as the hurdles are beginning to decrease with each game played. By the end of the season, Shane Doan should sit above all players of the Coyotes franchise in the categories of goals, assists, points, and power-play goals.
Shane Doan has already made history this season. Back on October 20th of this year, Doan became the 34th NHL player to play in 1,400 career games. He is the eighth player in National Hockey League history to accomplish this milestone with the same franchise. Shane Doan currently leads the Arizona Coyotes franchise with 1,414 games played and counting. The Captain leads the franchise in even strength goals (251), game-winning goals (66), and shots (3,672) as well.
“The Doan Face” Against The Detroit Red Wings On April 16, 2010:
There are only two more names standing in the way between Shane Doan and four other franchise leading titles. Dale Hawerchuk and Thomas Steen are the two former players that Shane is looking to pass this season. Hawerchuk currently leads the franchise in goals (379), points (929), and power-play goals (122). Thomas Steen leads the career assist category with 553.
Shane Doan is breathing down the necks of these two superstars. Doan is five goals behind the top spot with 374, 21 points behind Hawerchuk with 908, and only five power-play goals behind the lead position with 117. To reach Thomas Steen, Shane Doan will need to record 19 more assists on top of his current career total of 534.

All of these milestones can be, and more than likely will be, achieved by Shane Doan by the end of this season. At age 39, Doan still has something left to prove out on the ice. He shows no signs of slowing down and has made it clear that this will not be his final NHL season. With all these franchise records about to be broken, there’s only one thing left in Shane Doan’s sights.
