Arizona Coyotes Ready For Throwback Night Against Flames
Arizona Coyotes are excited to wear their Kachina-style jerseys for Throwback Night against the Calgary Flames on November 27th.
The Arizona Coyotes are no strangers to uniform changes this season. With the transition from the ‘Phoenix’ prefix to ‘Arizona’, new sweaters were coming. The team ditched their traditional Sedona-red jerseys this season for a new-age look featuring black sleeves and a paw print shoulder patch.

The Arizona Coyotes actually wore these beautiful uniforms last season. On March 5, 2015 the Coyotes held their first ever Throwback Night in franchise history. The team wore these black sweaters for the first time since 2003 in a packed Gila River Arena. Shane Doan would be the only player on the Coyotes roster to have worn this throwback sweater before.

The Vancouver Canucks came to Gila River Arena on that day, and would ultimately be sent home with a loss. The game would need extra time, as the two goals scored by Tobias Rieder and B.J. Crombeen in regulation would not be enough. Former Coyote Sam Gagner would eventually be the hero, as he scored the only goal in the shootout to seal the win for the Arizona Coyotes. Mike Smith would end the night with a .941 save percentage, as well.
The Coyotes players are extremely excited for this night in particular. A lot of the players grew up with this logo so the opportunity to compete with it on their chest is something special. Both the players and the fans feed in to the energy that this jersey brings to the ice. Fans can purchase their very own throwback jersey by clicking HERE.
Shane Doan describes his thoughts from the last time the team wore these sweaters:
“It was fun to see the guys in those jerseys and it brought back a lot of good memories for me. I remember seeing Tobi Rieder skating around in warm-ups in that No. 8 jersey and thinking it was Danny Briere. And I think it was fun for the younger guys who had no connection to it. That’s a jersey they saw growing up and it’s one that stood out because it was so different from other jerseys at the time. You could tell they really enjoyed wearing it.”
One player that truly embraces the Arizona Coyotes Throwback Night is goaltender Mike Smith. Most goaltenders do not go as far as Smith does for promotional hockey games. Smitty has his own special gear dedicated to the classic Coyotes jersey. Mike Smith unveiled sleek black pads along with an all black stick, blocker, and glove for the occasion. Smith takes it a step further by designing an entirely new mask for the night as well.
Mike Smith pays tribute to both the Kachina logo and rock star (and long time Coyotes fan), Alice Cooper with his throwback mask.
The Arizona Coyotes are looking forward to hosting the first throwback night of the season after a very successful one a year ago. The Arizona Coyotes (11-9-1) will take on the Calgary Flames (8-13-1) in a Pacific Division battle this Friday. If fans are unable to attend this special game, the Coyotes will be hosting a second throwback night this season against the St. Louis Blues on February 20, 2016. If the success continues, there may be more throwback nights in the future.
