Arizona Coyotes Louis Domingue Impressive Against Leafs

Arizona Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue posts another win in his second straight start with the team.

The Arizona Coyotes have seemed to solve their goaltending problem for the time being. The Coyotes have found themselves in a little situation this past week. It was made news that Mike Smith would be out 8-10 weeks after successful surgery to repair a core muscle in his lower abdomen.

The Arizona Coyotes had to make temporary changes to the roster in Smith’s absence. The team recalled Louis Domingue from the Springfield Falcons to fill the void at goaltending. The number one spot then shifted to Anders Lindback.

The goaltending pair of Lindback and Domingue is not ideal for the Arizona Coyotes. With that being said, Don Maloney and Dace Tippett are still searching for other options at goaltender. However, one goaltender is making Maloney and Tippett’s job a lot easier.

Louis Domingue is showing that his hard work in the off-season is finally paying off. With only seven NHL games to his name prior to this season, many felt that Domingue was not ready to carry the load at starter. Those thoughts can be cast aside with his phenomenal play recently.

Domingue was 6-6-1 with the Springfield Falcons before being called up this season. His 2.55 goals against average and .919 save percentage showed some promise for Louis at the next level.

Domingue has had a strong start this season in the National Hockey League with the Arizona Coyotes. In his first start this year, Domingue stopped all 25 shots he faced in a 1-0 victory against the New York Islanders. His positioning and awareness on the ice impressed the coaching staff well enough to award him another start.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Arizona Coyotes (12/22/15):

The Arizona Coyotes relied heavily on the play of Louis Domingue in his second consecutive start with the team. The first period of this game was a wild one with all three goals being scored in just 21 seconds. The Arizona Coyotes played a physical game, as they brought back the fan-favorite motto of “Hockey The Hard Way.”

Domingue had a critical stop on a penalty shot to send the Coyotes in to the intermission with the lead.

Penalty Shot:

Domingue was firing on all cylinders for the second consecutive game. “King Louis” finished the game with a .949 save percentage, as he stopped 37 of 39 shots in a 3-2 Arizona Coyotes victory. The Arizona Coyotes improve to 16-15-2 on the season, as they prepare for their next game against the Los Angeles Kings.

The Arizona Coyotes should consider riding the hot hand of Domingue and starting him again on December 26th.
