The Arizona Coyotes won in Calgary last night and finished their Canadian road trip 2-0-1. With a seven game home stand on the horizon, the Coyotes have a chance to rack up points in the Pacific.
After the win on Thursday night, the Arizona Coyotes completed their Canadian road trip with a 2-0-1 record.
Points from every game is huge for a team attempting to hold onto a playoff spot, and the Yotes have managed to squeak at least a point out of 8 out of their last 9 contests.
They also dominated possession last night in Calgary, which is a rare thing for a Coyotes team that generates just 27.1 shots per game (29th in the league) and gives up an average of 31 shots per game (7th most in the league per game).

Based on war-on-ice.com‘s numbers and the wonderful Sean Tierney‘s chart, we can see that all but four Arizona Coyotes were positives in possession. The only forward line that wasn’t was the Max Domi/Antoine Vermette/Mikkel Boedker line.
This recent run of form has allowed the team to gain a three point lead over third place Vancouver, and extend their gap with fourth place Calgary to four points.

With a seven game homestand beginning against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, the Arizona Coyotes have the chance to put a serious dent in the standings and create real distance between themselves and the rest of the Pacific Division pack.
The return of Martin Hanzal, should he stay healthy, will be a huge part of that. More important than anything, though, is that Louis Domingue continues to play consistently in net.
If he manages to avoid a severe drop off in play, Coyotes fans could be saying “Mike who?” by the time the incumbent returns from injury.

Is loyalty the key to Shane Doan’s success? [Along The Boards – Sarah Hall]
"Players like Doan — who play for the team that drafted them all the way through to the end of their careers– don’t really exist in the league anymore. This is mostly due to the NHL adopting free agency and the salary cap."

With free agency looming, what will Mikkel Boedker do? [Arizona Sports – Craig Morgan]
"“If an offer comes in from the Coyotes that’s a great offer, he does like it there and he likes the players and fans and coaches so that might lead him to re-sign. But if it’s another situation where we can’t agree on a fair deal then in six months, he’s free and we can see exactly what he’s worth.”"

Not so much, even in the wake of being arrested with oxycodone at the U.S.-Canada border last June, having his former team the Los Angeles Kings void the remaining years on his contract and spending last winter in the minors. Any acknowledgment of wrongdoing or having made mistakes? Not so much, either."
