The Arizona Coyotes got back to winning ways on Friday night against the Calgary Flames with a 4-1 victory. Shane Doan broke the franchise points record of 929 after finishing with two goals and one assist, while Louis Domingue saved 26 of 27 shots he faced.

1. 112. 4. 121. Final

After a five game skid the Arizona Coyotes came into Friday night in desperate need of a victory. Thanks to the captain and Louis Domingue, they got what they needed.

Shane Doan got the scoring started early with a shot that somehow found it’s way through traffic and past Jonas Hiller.

In the second period, Oliver Ekman-Larsson put the Arizona Coyotes up 2-0 with a wonderful snipe at the beginning of a Yotes power play.

With the assist on OEL’s goal, Shane Doan moved into sole possession of first place on the Coyotes’ franchise points record.

Anthony Duclair made it 3-0 on another power play less than two minutes later.

In the third period, some horrendous defensive coverage allowed Joe Colborne to get a tap-in on Domingue’s back doorstep and cut the lead to 3-1.

Another late power play opportunity allowed Shane Doan to capitalize emphatically on a gorgeous cross-ice feed from Mikkel Boedker.

Arizona Coyotes win 4-1.

Player Performance

Louis Domingue has had a nice bounce back pair of games after the roughest stretch of his NHL career. Whether the Yotes make the playoffs or not, Domingue showing resilience and proving NHL capability is one of the biggest boons the team could have moving into 2016-17.

Mikkel Boedker had several glorious opportunities and couldn’t cash in. I have to wonder if perhaps he’s feeling the pressure of the impending contract or potential trade. He did have that wonderful assist on the Doan power play goal, though.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson ended up with three points on the night. One goal and two assists. The dude is freaking amazing. He has 41 points this season in 54 games. His career high total? 44. He’s gonna blow that out of the water.

Martin Hanzal continues to look like a shell of himself everywhere but in the face-off dot. He also continues to take penalties.

Arizona Coyotes Player of the Game

Shane Doan‘s season has been absolutely incredible. The records, the goals, the way he shows up for his team…it is all truly impressive. I hope this really isn’t the last season we get to watch him on the ice and I don’t think it will be.

He’s up to 21 goals on the year and is now the franchise leader in points scored and power play goals scored. Next up, 1000 points?

The View From The 200 Level

There was plenty to love in the victory. One thing didn’t change, however, and that was the Coyotes undisciplined play.

Shane Doan is a freaking legend. Not only is he the captain, he is the franchise and owns virtually ever notable franchise record that you could rattle off. It’s amazing what he’s been able to accomplish this season after being written off due to a subpar 2014-15.

The win breathes a little bit of life into the Coyotes’ playoff hopes ahead of a huge game in San Jose on the second part of this back-to-back.

The Arizona Coyotes play the Sharks tonight in a four point game with playoff aspirations increasingly on the line.
