Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka continues to make moves, reportedly signing Radim Vrbata to a one-year deal.
If you said just one thing about the Arizona Coyotes under new General Manager John Chayka, you could say he’s making hockey a year-round sport in the desert.
How else to explain the fact that every week there seems to be new moves, new moves, and new talking points surrounding the Yotes?
In the Barclays Premier League, manager Claudio Ranieri picked up the nickname “The Tinkerman” for constantly altering his squad while managing at Chelsea. Perhaps John Chayka will earn this title after just one offseason.
It sounds a bit of a slight, but Ranieri is the same man who led Leicester City to the Premier League title last season at 5000-to-1 odds.
Another tinkering success story comes from the Northeastern part of our country. His name is Bill Belichick, you might have heard of him.
As Chayka announces this buyout, that signing, or another trade throughout the offseason, it’s hard to feel anything but refreshed. The team is making moves, and making them for the better.
There’s the possibility that the Coyotes — and by extension, John Chayka — could fall flat on their faces come October, but if we’re measuring him by what happens in 2016-17 then we are the fools.
Chayka, Head Coach Dave Tippett, and the Coyotes ownership group are building a group that can take advantage of the modern game and be sustainable for years down the road.
Kind of like those guys in Detroit, only without the bad weather.
