Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka continues to make moves to bolster the team’s roster current and future.

Arizona Coyotes General Manager John Chayka may be 26-years-old, but he operates like a man three times his age.

How else to explain the zest and zeal that he has approached this offseason, his first as a general manager?

Chayka has made moves at such a breakneck pace that even the “dog days of summer” have presented plenty of topics for Yotes fans and blogs to discuss.

Yesterday, Chayka again used cap space as an asset. This time he acquired 2015 11th overall pick Lawson Crouse from the Florida Panthers.

The price was taking on the albatross contract of Dave Bolland, which still has $16.5M over three years on it’s ledger.

It’s a stinker.

John Chayka has no intention of seeing Bolland take the ice, however. He noted that Bolland “is injured for the foreseeable future and that’s part of the deal. For us it’s a cap hit.”

He mentioned that because Arizona Coyotes will only be on the hook for $1.1M of the money owed to Dave Bolland per year if he remains injured.

Chayka’s also pretty high on Lawson Crouse stating that he feels the kid is “physically ready and mentally ready” to compete for an NHL roster spot.

Excellent. Crouse fills a need in the Yotes’ deep prospect pool as a huge, skilled winger.

He’ll be the perfect compliment to smaller, shiftier guys in the system like Conor Garland and even current NHLer Max Domi.
