Arizona Coyotes hold their breath on Ekman-Larsson injury
The Arizona Coyotes are no strangers to injuries and now the team must wait for news on one of the most important players on their roster.
In the Arizona Coyotes’ 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators, captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson suffered a currently unspecified injury.
It is currently unclear when OEL suffered his injury, but it will keep him out of the team’s final Canadian road trip game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Per The Athletic’s Catherine Silverman, Ekman-Larsson will need an MRI when the team returns to the desert, with very little known about his condition or severity of his injury.

Now the Arizona Coyotes organisation and fanbase will collectively hold their breaths awaiting the news, with the team having already suffered a slew of disappointing injuries to key players.
Starting goaltender Antti Raanta, top pairing defenceman Jason Demers, centres Nick Schmaltz, Christian Dvorak and Brad Richardson, as well as defensive winger Michael Grabner, are all currently sidelined, with the majority of them out for the rest of the 2018/19 season.
Despite this horrific luck, the Coyotes still find themselves competing for a playoff spot – with the team’s recent run helping them climb to just two points outside the final wildcard place.
With Niklas Hjalmarsson also suffering a facial injury against the Senators, losing OEL for an extended period of time could be the final nail in the coffin for the team’s legitimate playoff hopes.
Ekman-Larsson currently leads Coyotes defencemen in goals with six and assists (20), combining for 26 total points in 39 appearances this season.
Losing the team’s leader and best defenceman could be one injury too many for Rick Tocchet‘s plucky underdogs.
The hope is that his injury will not be too serious and the team will have him back on the ice sooner rather than later.
However, everyone will be holding their breath until that is either confirmed or denied.
