The Arizona Coyotes fell short last night against the New York Islanders. The game was anything but great for the Coyotes, and we have the full game recap.

The Arizona Coyotes only scored twice tonight against the New York Islanders. We said how great the Islanders were defensively in our game preview, and they proved it last night. Even with a great defense, the Islanders did give up two goals. Michael Grabner managed to get one past Varlamov, and later on, Conor Garland also managed to score.

I would be lying if I said that the Coyotes played good tonight. They looked a step behind throughout most of the contest, and couldn’t find a way to answer. I know we managed to score an empty-net goal and get to within one with a minute left in a game, but when I say answer I mean something else.

The Arizona Coyotes were given a taste of their own medicine tonight. New York played a fast game, with a great forecheck. More importantly, the Islanders played amazing defensively. Does that all remind you of any other team we have been watching?

The Arizona Coyotes took a big step back against the New York Islanders last night. They were outplayed up and down the ice. To be fair, the Islanders have had a few days off to try to figure out the Coyotes system, but we expect more.

I think the statistics are telling for this game. The New York Islanders killed the Coyotes in the faceoff dot, winning 32 compared to the Coyotes 21. When you win the faceoff you decide what you are going to do with the puck and get to drive the possession numbers. It hurt the Coyotes tonight to not win more faceoffs.

Before the empty-net goal, the Arizona Coyotes were only down by one goal. That is a close margin when you think about it. Imagine if they had capitalized on one of their three power plays tonight. Would have been a game-changer right?

Another sad piece of news: Darcy Kuemper‘s streak of giving up two goals or less ended last night. It was a glorious record-breaking streak.

The good news is we won’t have to wait very long before the ‘Yotes next game. They are facing off against the New Jersey Devils later tonight!
