Did that week fly by? Another week is upon us and that means we need to give you our three stars of the week. The Arizona Coyotes played 3 games in the past week against the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils.
The Arizona Coyotes finished the week with a record of 2-1, not bad from a team playing all 3 games on the road with a back to back. The Coyotes finished the week scoring 10 goals and giving up 9, pretty even split there.
To recap, last weeks three stars of the week were :
(Last weeks Stars: 3 Oliver Ekman-Larsson, 2 Christian Dvorak, 1 Nick Schmaltz)
Number 3 Star of the week – Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Ekman-Larsson is one of the first repeat stars on our 3 stars of the week. Ekman-Larsson was actually the number 3 star of the week last week following the injuries to Niklas Hjalmarsson and Jordan Oesterle.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson has been a constant backbone for the Coyotes and has been making chances all week. He has one goal and one assist in the last 3 games and is a plus 3 in the +/- department.
The Coyotes success this week is in large part thanks to Ekman-Larsson.
Number 2 Star of the week – Nick Schmaltz
Nick Schmaltz has been amazing the last few weeks for the Coyotes. He has been a constant force and is leading the team in points so far this season. One of the most amazing things about Schmaltz has been his ability to make a game-changing play throughout the entire game.
He had 3 points in the last 3 days. In my opinion, Schmaltz needs to be given an opportunity on the top line.
Number 1 Star of the week – Michael Grabner
Michael Grabner is the first star of the week for one reason only. He is SOO fast. I mean I honestly do not understand how he is out skating so many young players on the ice. He scored two goals this past week and both were because of his speed and determination.
Maybe Grabner should have been the second or third star of the week, but he has been consistent so far this season. Every game he shows his speed once or twice, he is an asset any team would be lucky to have.
